awesome poll. It's really cool to see who's in the same boat as me. Can't wait to see the numbers once a lot more people vote. I sync locally with outlook and have been quite happy with it.

Exchange activesync - provided by 1and1.co.uk (not an endorsement) - personal account - 5 per month.

I like having it to keep everything synced on-the-fly, and more importantly; it's a saftynet - PIM is backed up as it's created/edited.

Hey - I set up livemesh yesterday so my ewallet sync is now over the air to my desktop. That was my last cable item.

This is how I did it.

1) Sync ewallet with the device.

2) Backed up the wallet and stored in a safe place

3) Deleted the wallet on the phone

4) made a "wallet folder" on the desktop - put the ewallet data file in it, opened that file on the desktop (that way the desktop always looks for it there)

5) added that folder to livemesh on the desktop

6) Told live mesh on the phone to pull down the Wallet folder

7) opened the ewallet

when I make changes, livemesh syncs it across the devices.

yeah - you could also just create a password protected/encrypted universal standard free-form flexible MS Word Document with all of your data on it and sit it out on a server somewhere and open it with any computer or any device that can open up Word Documents. and your data is not trapped in some black box proprietary closed-form app. and MS Word is free if you already have it as most of us do.

Syncing my PIM to Palm Desktop on work laptop and home desktop.........free
Syncing and sharing only the cal on Goosync.......free
Backing up on sd card via NVBackup.........free

and if some are right....

Getting bent over a rail and forced to accept a monthly subscription (service?) to access MY data on My handheld safely stored on MY computer .........intolerable.

Last edited by eekinsman; 01/15/2009 at 08:08 PM. Reason: replaced CKG with some. Didnt see CKG recent posts on his prediction of palm offering free basic PIM sync

A word document ? That's like using excel for PIM management - not fit for purpose. Since Ewallet supports txt export, where's the lock-in? I can export the data at anytime if I no longer want to use it. For the data to be trapped, there would have to be no way for me to get to it.

1. sync to linux desktop and laptop with jpilot (also free)
2. backup nightly with nvbackup (also free)
3. backup contacts and calendar with goo-sync, (not free but gcal also syncs with thunderbird on all my computers so it's worth it)

Also... can't do the poll from mobile forum ;-)

I sync locally to my personal lapper to Palm desktop. Based on the poll Im with the majority but based on the posts Im in the minority.

I have a pop account that Ive had for about 8 years and I really dont want to switch. But I also want to have my stuff synced OTA to an exchange service. Im jammed and I dont know what to do.

Id love to have my PIM synced to a cloud somewhere I just dont know what or how to do it.

One of my other issues is that Ive got some workout software thats on both my 700P and my lapper. I sync them so that the desktop has the most current data.

Seems Im going to loose that type of option if and when I get a Pre. Unless I just use my 700 while Im in the gym.

Im a little perturbed that Palm is potentially making things like this difficult and forcing me to change.
