Idk if i'm getting ahead of myself or just being pestomistic but I'm starting to wonder what my next phone will be beyond the Treo 755p. I could get a Centro but that would just be delaying what we all know is going to happen.

I don't want a Windows Mobile phone, the iPhone could be a choice but I'd like to look around, and i'm not getting a Blackberry.

Maybe the G1? No exchange support is a big shot against it though, but that'll change some day. Also I've thought about the E71 from Nokia.

Anyone else starting to think about this? Thoughts?

No one knows... whatever you are looking for from palm will be running under the new OS (since you don't want windows). Well, that is unless they do a "final" OS 5 product, which I don't see happening.

G1 is now getting some type of ads... lol... I won't touch that. Not to mention google's creepy privacy policy.

E71 from nokia seems okay... that OS is alright. Personally, I moved over to windows and don't see a reason to go anyplace else. It is wonderful.

I can't wait to see what palms put out... Google's first linux OS is not so hot... well, it is okay if you think of it in terms of a 1st generation device. Although, apple's 1st gen device was slick (and I don't care for the iphone). I doubt if palm will release something better than google did... but we could all be surprised.

    Who knows....

I'd rather have the Nova OS they are building. But there is a chance Palm will fail to deliver and be just another WM phone maker, miss the mark with the new OS, or collapse as a company.

Who knows... if the new Palm OS II isn't on Sprint though I'm prob going to skip to whoever get's the handheld first. I'll miss my $99 simply everything plan

I think the biggest thing I'm seeing -- or NOT seeing -- is a lot of leaks surrounding nova... unless I'm missing something. Heck in oct 07 I was seeing stuff about google's phone... last dec I saw a demo on youtube.

That is the scary part... if nova is to release soon, why are we not talking about the "demo" instead of repeating "who knows?" Who knows.

I'm sitting back waiting... going to be interesting. My money is on palm folding and selling the name. Hate to say it, but that is my bet. I'd love to be wrong though.

For me the killer Palm OS apps are chattermail, keysuite and Pocket Quicken. The only other platform supporting PocketQuicken and a full set of PIM apps that can be synced with multiple computers is unfortunately WM. I would not consider an iPhone (incomplete PIM apps, locked to AT&T, no cut and paste) or the G1 (tmobile, form factor, too GMail/Google centric).

My strategy is a spare Centro in the closet. I am going to wait it out until something meets my needs which isn't Palm OS (WM7 perhaps).

Well, the developer of chattermail went to work for palm some time ago (maybe last year or the year before?). Far as I know he is still working for palm.

I've often thought of Nova being a freaking killer email/txt/web device out the box. In the back of my mind, that is what I want.... well, more email and txt than anything else. I still don't care for the web on such small phones, but find I "need" the web more and more these days for this reason or that... and I only have a phone near. So, yea, the web is "getting" somewhat important to me on a smartphone...

I agree with you about PQ, that would be nice.

Keysuite, I'll have to lookup. lol... never heard of it... [edit] ahh... yes, I see why you mentioned that... http://www.chapura.com/keysuite.php

To Palm Credit, they did keep the Foleo under wraps for a long time. It wasn't until a week or two before it was announced that we found out that it was a mobile companion and the press announcement the night before was the first hard proof of it.

So Palm can keep a secret, let's hope that is what is going on here!

Yes, I stand corrected... but I'd HOPE we would see some glimpses of the OS... but you do make a very STRONG argument as to why we have not seen anything... oh well...

I would love to see a screen shot of just the home screen. And one thing to keep in mind is that most of the leaked shots come from either the FCC or the carriers.

The iPhone was concealed in hardware testing by giving it a big ugly body and it worked like a charm. No one ever saw the iPhone before Macworld back in 2007. I'd like to think Palm could do it too. After all they got some Apple in them.
