    Is there going to be a new Palm OS for a new Treo?

    I'm not a Windows person and I own a Treo 700p. I like it alot, but it would be great to see something new that would compete with the iPhone in the sense of a new interface design.

    Any information would be helpful. If a new OS doesn't come out when my contract is up with Sprint, I might go with the Samsung Instinct!!

    That is Access' ALP. Palm will not be using it as they are working on their own OS, Nova.

    As JohnCC hinted at, Palm's new, Linux-based, Garnet-backwards-compatible OS is in development, and it is known currently as Nova. Do a few searches and you'll find what little is known. New devices with the Nova OS are supposedly due sometime in 2009.

    I'm out of my mind. But feel free to leave a message.

    If Dmitry comes through, then DGOS might be an option.

    Is it certain that Nova will not turn out to be ALP?
    Treo 180 (T-Mo) --> Treo 600 (T-Mo) --> Treo 180 (T-Mo) --> Treo 650 (T-Mo) --> Treo 650 NC (Cing) --> Treo 680 (Cing) --> Pre (Sprint)

    Nothing is certain until we see a working demo of Nova, hopefully at CES2009. Anecdotal evidence suggests that Nova will be far more significant than ALP, but with Palm, who really knows? Elevation Partners wouldn't have poured so much money into Palm if they didn't see something pretty special, something they believe can rescue Palm. But until we see something real, I maintain a healthy measure of skepticism.

    I am a little skeptical as well... I'm beginning to worry that elevation threw all that money at palm just so palm could hang on long enough for them to push this product out the door with ALP instead of Nova. All so that when they try to shop palm around later on buyers might be a little more attracted.

    EDIT: Sorry, it appears my statement below is misinformation - please ignore.
