I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread.

Which Treo operating system is better, Windows or Palms? Currently, I'm using Palms and happy with it, but often wondered if I was missing out not taking a look at Windows.

That's like asking what car is best. It depends on your needs for the most part.
I find it sad/odd that people ask to be thanked. How genuine is it when you have to ask? It's like forcing your kid to call Grandma, to thank her for the new underwear she sent for their birthday.

"To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

    Scary,
You beat me to it. And you're still here?

Its like comparing a ford to a mercury. Basics are the same, some minor differences.

I'd say it is more like comparing a hatchback and an SUV. One may be easier to drive, but the other carries more of a load.

Yep, I'm not too keen on WM personally, but it is a more modern, complete OS. I really hope Palm hits a home run with their Linux OS.

Palm OS is outdated, dull and plain crappy.... I've been win and I'm not going back... heck, palm wants to jump to linux, it does not want that OS either!

The question is clear, and the only real answer is WINDOWS MOBILE!!!!!!!!

I prefer simple but effective, whereas WM is bloated and overcomplicated

Thankfully Palm have added their enhancements which make WM useable, but it still requires more steps to do something on a WM Treo than a PalmOS one.

Even though the Palm OS is a bit outdated, if Palm would just fix the hardware and software issues, people would generally be satisfied. There are always people who want the newest and most flashy device. Apple knows this and has done well. However, many others just want a good solid phone, pim, Internet and email device, that can also entertain them with music, games and video. Heck, the Blackberry is not really that innovative but you hear people say about the Blackberry, "it just works." The reason they say that is because of the trouble people have had with Palm.

To answer the question of the OP, I would say that Palm is a more solid and intuitive system. Windows is only a consideration because Palm hasn't stepped up and moved the Palm OS forward.

I love palm os. WM is great, but its just not for me.

It seems like everyone wants to bash problems whenever they get a chance to.
OT, I am tired of the palm stinks, treostinks, I am leaving threads. If you want to leave, then leave. No need to get a few jabs in before you leave.

WM has its rough edges, and probably require a more technically inclined user, but if you know windows well, you will understand WM very well also. PalmOS does not have this synergy

Whether you want this or not is up to you.

Actually, I'd rather have the palm os... but after using two palm treos, I simply gave up... then, out of a fluke (well, sprint sero), I ended up with a treo 700wx. Wow... it was like no other treo I had ever owned, which was a good thing. Maybe I just got unlucky with my prior palm-based os treos, and lucky with my windows-based treo.

But yea, all I want is for the phone to be stable and allow me to get my email... I found email on the palm a complete disaster... and stability and palm should not be in the same sentence.

I'm an *****... I still believe palm can make a comeback. I want to believe that anyway... although, I also believe htc will gun palm down in 2008. Be more like a double-barrel blast in the stomach, with both barrels smoking... I’m not confident that palm can make the switch to linux without major issues. I wish they could, but I seriously doubt it… and as Apple did when they changed their OS, palm will lose more users.

The reason I posted the question was I wasn't familiar with WM. I've used the Palm OS for years and was use to it. If everyone thought WM was great I'd give that a try. But from what I'm reading, I guess I'll stick with Palm OS.

At present about 50 percent of palm's sales are WM, yet the complaints are a lot less. I think WM users are generally a lot happier.

Today WM is better, more powerful and at least as stable as PalmOS.

It's hard to say, but PalmOS isn't competitive. A lot of people will find it useful, and all that they need, but in global terms, PalmOS has lost the match.

Windows is having the lunch of most companies... not because Microsoft is so great, but because other companies are so lame.

I take it the Palm programs that a lot of us use will not run on WM?

    Not that I'm aware of.

You can run multiple programs at once and switch between them. For that alone I can't go back to PalmOS.
