Hey folks, how do I change my caller id on my treo 680 to come up with my name, rather than my wifes name who has the family account in her name.

Call your carrier's customer support group.
    V > Vx > m505 > m515 > T/T > T3 > TC > 650 > 680

Bill, sure this isn't just how he has the entry in his contacts?

Varies from carrier to carrier I suspect, but I only get numbers here on my CID unless the person is in Contacts. And depending upon who-knows-what, if you have the same number twice, it'll show one or the other. I've never bothered to look, but I suspect it's the first match.

I think he's talking about how his callerID appears to folks receiving calls from him, on a land line as well as a cell.

It is a carrier issue. Some provide names, some don't. Some allow you to request special configuration, some don't (actually I don't know any that do). This is an often repeated complaint of shared family plans.

With VZW(my carrier), they don't offer names at all. Period. They just display some random switching station on the remote callerID. Mine always says "Englewood, CO". Even when I am nowhere in the vicinity of Englewood, CO. Even if I am calling from out of state. Always. Just a quirk of the VZW system.

Some systems just display "Cellular Caller", equally as stupid as Englewood, CO and/or the wrong person's name, IMHO.

Yes, this is one of my pet peeves

I just wish, if they don't allow you to configure it to provide an accurate name, that they didn't provide any name at all, just the number would be fine.

    Argh....!

I think when I was in Cingular, I had my name show up on my line, and unknown or wireless on the other 3. That's the best they can do.

Now that I'm on Sprint, I THINK everyone's name shows up on their respective numbers. I don't have CID at home anymore, so I really don't care how their name shows up to their friends. Mine shows up on mine, and that's all I'm worried about. I think I've seen their names on my grandmother's CID though, so I'm assuming it works.

It's getting to be a hassle, more of my clients are putting in CID, and I have a different last name than the wife, so on a few occasions the clients have told me, yea I just ignored it, till you left a VM.

On Sprint, at least, each of the 4 phones on my family plan has the individual's name asssociate with caller id. Another benefit of Sprint!

Same here, and all it took was one phone call and about 48 hours to show up, but that was okay. They even used my name the way I wanted it (Rick instead of Richard).

I didn't even have to make a phone call. They asked me for the name of each person when I added them to the plan, and as soon as the phone's were activate they had the right name.
