So far, the washing machine is winning. My 680 went through the wash this morning and isn't working. But it's really clean...

Any ideas to get it working again? A fan and some patience?

    Anyone?

when you have removed the battery read some of the other threads about this subject. But basically, yeah, leave it in a hot dry placed for some days. Others have suggested putting it in side a tight plastic bag, or a jar along with some http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silica_Gel and then leave it to dry for some days.

Often the results has been good, and the treos have been working again.

pull out the battery. But how many threads do you need about this subject. You might be able to buy silica gel at a photo shop.

I pulled battery and sim card out. Both look tarnished. I did a search for drying out a treo, wet treo and washing machine but found nothing. So if anyone can point me toward a link, let me know.

Is the battery shot? I put it in and the red indicator light came on but no power to the screen.

From the subject line I thought this post was about whether to buy a phone or a washing machine.

it will take a few days, but it may work. i wouldn't try to put the battery back in for a few days though.

So my Treo has been in the food dehydratorat 120 degrees F for 2 hours. I'll let you know the outcome.

    Two questions...

Does the SIM card have to be in to have the phone work?

The apearance of the metal contacts on the battery and on the SIM card appear to be tarnished/burnished. Could they be fried from the water contact? So far, it doesn't appear that there is any damage to the screen.

I was wondering why I couldn't find any dirty jokes on-line.

Do not put the battery back until it is fully dry.

A search for "water" turns up these relevant ones amongst others.

gtwo must be out of town... :-)

Ion++ has pointed out the important aspects to ensuring your phone can wake up healthy and johncc has taken the time to find you some links and I'm sure gtwo would've assisted also if he'd been in town.

    You're in good hands.

Best of luck drying your phone out and I'm almost certain that in the past, gtwo and everyone else have helped keep the treo ahead of the washing machine in the standings!

It can't be that Perry is just "out of town" He's got a 700p grafted to his hand (that he took back from his avatar - no, I know he didn't do that - he must've bought another one).

He's either out of service area or very, very, busy in some sideline job (you know, where the money actually comes from).

Hopefully, the damage was mostly to the battery and the SIM card...those can both be replaced.

I'm willing to bet that if it went through an entire wash cycle, it's probably NOT gonna survive. Water will saturated the entire device. If it does live, I'll be shocked. Hope you have insurance
I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance by fleeing the scene of the accident!

Wow, my condolences. Hope it still works.

It's dead. I hope you have insurance.

    LOL
    grafted to hip
    yes on all other speculations

    You guys done good.

    Any FREE MEMORY threads around?

    IN SUMMARY:
A full wash cycle with the battery in may have been too much time. . . . the electronics had plenty of time to short out. . . . .

YES -- KEEP THE BATTERY OUT OF IT !!!

Completely dry in front of fan. . . .(turning occassionally . . .repeat.)

Then 2 days in the sealed ziplock or tupperwear with the silica gel packets on a sunny window sill. (as many as you can get.)

Then put the battery back in. . . . . if it fires up . . . . you are one lucky soul.

    Cheers, Perry.

I have washed two cell phones in a washing machine - each time, I had to get a new one.

just a tip-- if you can't get enough silica gel packets, you can fill a large tupperwear container full of instant rice. submerge your device (ive done this with 2 digital cameras) in the rice, and seal it up! give it a day or 2

    good luck
