I've had the Treo 600, 650, 700p and now 700wx. They just keep getting better and better. I'm shocked how perfect the wx is, it's unreal!!!!

But I've always had trouble with the sync cables and power cables, they just don't stay together very well. The Treo beeps and the led turns on/off to let me know its gaining/loosing contact with the car charger. The light on the desk charger goes off if I move it. Also I always had to wiggle the sync cable on my 650 to get it to sync.

Am I just not careful with mine or do a sizable amount of users have similar trouble?

The sync/charger connects and stays in fine. However, the charger by itself sucks bigtime. I ended up getting a retractable USB Sync/Charge cable on eBay and plug it into a cigarette lighter/usb adapter. Now my treo stays plugged in when I am in the car.

    stroths,

You said you thought the chargers were junk and you had to buy a special charger and adapter to get around this problem but you voted that you dont have trouble with the cables.

I understand you dont have trouble now with a special cable and adapter but that is not what the poll is asking.

No troubles with the connectors themselves. Only thing is that I keep my Treo in my pocket so I have to blow off the dust on the connector before I set it on my cradle. Think old-school NES cartridges.

Actually, I voted that I do lose connection. If you look at my post, I stated that the sync/charger cable stays in fine. Its the charger by itself that sucks.

It will eventually give in. It's a matter of time.

Ya, i have no problem with the phone to cradle connection. I threw away the cable that came with the cradle yesterday and am now using the cable that came with the 700wx. If it starts loosing contact I'll go with the stroths solution http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/...b_cable_review http://www.meritline.com/car-charger-usb-chargers.html

I wonder if the sync cable will regulate the correct voltage and amperage since the adapter is not made for the treo?

They are junk, they always lose connection. Even my seidio retractable cable started to give me problems, after 6 months of occasional use though. Palm should really go with the usb route.

For those interested in what I have hooked up, here are the items I bought. These aren't the sellers I used, but the items are the same:

    Dual Port USB Car Charger/Adapter
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=320024653391

    Insten Retractable USB Sync/Charge Cable
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=320027070652

I got the dual port in case I wanted to hook up something else.

What cable are those of you with problems using? I bought a BoxWave USB charger which is junk, and won't stay connected. But that's not Palm's fault. My Palm cable and Palm car charger work perfectly, every time.

Hmm, a Seidio cable goes bad and that's Palm's fault? I don't see it. Fact is, almost everything Seidio sells becomes junk in a very short time. You can hardly blame that on Palm.

    You can blame palm.

The receptor dictates the type of extension needed so Palm should use a receptor that would allow a solid extension. A receptor less than 1/4 inch deep that does not lock into place is a bad idea.

If you look at the extensions that fit the receptor the contact points are tiny and they are held in by the contact points bending in a little. There is nothing a manufacturer could really do about that. After a little use any connector for any phone loosens up and need less effort to plug/unplug the phone, in palms case this normal amount of give is enough to push it over its low threshold.

I have a problem with my treo headset jack since the cord was ripped out by accident when it got tangled around the corner of a desk when I was jammin to some pirated toons. I can't even get a new set of Treo haeadphones to work clearly since. I don't want to trade it for another device since this one has been stable in fear of one of the lemons out their, but I would like to get it fixed.

palm sent me a few new usb cables - none of them works properly, even on different treo 650's ... go figure if you're not even able to produce a properly functioning cable ...

I have went threw six chargers in a month so yeah they suck big time.

This is pretty shocking. In the last 2 years I've seen 10 polls titled "How do you like your Treo?". They all came out showing 90% of TC users love their Treo. I always figured those numbers were biased being that were a bunch that belong to a community called TreoCentral. That being reality and of course palm is aware of the problem with their connectors, (it would be ridiculous to think their not), why would they continue to use them?

The connector system they switched to with the 650 (and now in the 700s) is a cheap piece of....

My cradle stopped working, my cord stopped working and three other cords from users in my office also stopped working.

I bought a Bluetooth adapter and synch wireless all the time now.

Why can't we just have a normal USB adapter Palm? Look at the new Blackberry Pearl for example.

I only use the port in the car to connect with the GPS. It seems to loose the GPS signal occasional, but that could be caused by bad reception or movement of the car..
At home I only use a 3rd party power charger and that works fine.
