I think its funny that people, collectively, agree that wearing a cellphone or PDA on your belt is a fashion faux paus but will then walk around town - or the office - or the mall actually carrying their Treo or Cellphone in their hand even when they aren't using it.

Its definately the new rage. I do it myself. I walk around holding my 700p waiting for a text message to come in, or a call. Its right there. In my hand. Ready for action at all times.

I am pretty sure that this is a manifestation of the "Crackberry" syndrome, but it now extends to users of all cell-connected devices.

It's like the wild west out there, and I am just happy that compared to a Razr or Moto Q, that my 700p is like a Colt .45

I must confess, i do it as well.

Some times i dont even know that i am doing it. I have tryed all the caes is the world and i just cant find one that i like (Although i do like those silcon skin ones i think ill get one for my next device). And wearing a suit it just feels to loose in my pockets for my liking so more often then not if its not frying my brain, its in my hand or jacket pocket.

I carry mine or put it in my pocket. I like to fondle my Treo.

I always carry mine in my trouser pocket. If I walked around with it in my hand it would only be a matter of time before I dropped it!
It's not that I'm so smart, it's just that I stay with problems longer- Albert Einstein.

On the belt, but it is not unusual at all to be inputting data or responding to an email on the trot. Ben

While driving I always take it out of my belt and put it on a cup holder. Then from the parking lot to the office I usually carry my Treo 700p in my hand because I know I'm going to dock it on my cradle.
Now the real question is Have you ever sleep with your Treo in your hands?
Last night my 2 year old brought my Treo to bed (I'm guessing my wife gave it to him to give it to me) and I felt asleep with my Treo in my hand.

I have slept with my Treo on several occasions, falling asleep in the midst of a marathon text messaging session.

Do you mean like right now, with BT earpiece to boot?

It is on the table next to the bed as an alarm clock (MobileClock); however I do not read in bed - that would really get the boss angry and she stays that way a lot. Ben

sometimes I carry it when walking to the car or into the office - but most of the time (when I am moving) it is in my pocket. I bought a nice leather case for it, but found that my pocket worked better for me.

And it is also beside my bed as it is my alarm clock (Butler) and I do read web content at night sometimes b/f beddie-bye (and yes Ben, it does not always make the wife happy that I am doing that!).

I will keep it in my hand if I am working on something or waiting for a text/email to come in. Otherwise it goes in my pocket.

I usually keep it on the belt but there are times when I am on the phone and walking around the office holding the phone. Sometimes I will put it back in the holster while I am on the phone but it's rare.

usually in my shirt pocket, but at times in the pants pocket ( with the sars levels where they are, I prefer not keeping them near the family jewels )

I'm not one to whip out my treo constantly in public unless its a very important call or if I'm extremely bored.

one thing I just have to say - people who walk around showing off their phones egregiously or wearing their headsets in places like the grocery store or video store look like total freaking dorks in my opinion. honestly. its the "look at me, aren't I important?" thing. that's so clownish!!!. I'm embarrassed FOR them, so I try to be discreet with my treo.

rant over. back to topic - its the shirt pocket for me.

I have it in my pocket because I hate how bulky the cases are on my belt. I also don't think any of the cases fit my gen x type style. But I do have it in my hand sometimes. Just a habit I guess. As soon as I get my shieldzone skin, I will have it in my hand more I guess...

If my hand is making repetitive motions in my pocket, I'm just "fondling my Treo." Heh-heh.

No, I keep it in my pocket when it's not in use, but I do compulsively check it even though I'm well aware the vibrator or ringer will go off if it needs my attention. If I'm pressed for time and walking between destinations, sometimes I'll check my mail or instant messages while I walk. When it was new I liked "showing it off" that way, how people would marvel over its grandeur, but it didn't take long for that to get irritating.

Depending on what pants I wear for the day.

I sleep with my treo while it is playing mp3

As a general rule, my "lifeline (700p by Verizon) goes in my front right pants pocket (still fits in there even with a Speck case) next to my keys and chapstick...) unless, as others have said, I'm expecting something. I'd be way too scared that I'd lose it, carrying it in my hand in public.

I do take it out when I'm driving,
    Brent

Be careful with that! If the buttons compress too hard for too long (in my case, in a pocket; in yours, you might lay on it) you can damage the sproingy little bits of metal that give the keys their comfortable little click. My right shift was stuck on for a day and a half while Sprint gave me the run-around, made the phone unusable until I went in and fixed it myself.
