One day about a week ago my Treo 650 stopped syncing the calendar with my vanilla Palm Desktop 4.1.4. The only error message in the log (in RED) is:

    Calendar synchronization failed

I have not found any references to this except a few plaintive unanswered queries in the (pathetic) Palm Support Forums. Since I did not notice it for 10 days, I have changes both in my Desktop and my Treo, and don't want to just wipe the Treo data and try again; plus I have no way of knowing if there is a corruption problem in the Desktop or in the handheld. Any ideas?

    Many thanks,

    Curt Sanford

Then, if I specify 'handheld overwrites desktop', will I lose the changes I have put in the desktop, or only those changes that conflict with the handheld?

Perform a soft reset and then try again

You'll lose the desktop changes. If you'd rather lose the handheld changes, I can suggest another method.

I usually get an accompanying message in the hot sync log that one has 51 entries and the other 52.....I delete the larger one and then hotsync again.

Well, many thanks I seem to be back in business.

The soft reset did not do the trick, but a warm reset did. I was able to get through the record delete step. I then did not follow instructions, but just did a regular hotsync, which produced the following log:
    -- Calendar
    - Some handheld records were not copied to your PC. Your computer may be full or you may have reached the maximum allowed records on the desktop. To correct this situation, delete some records and perform a HotSync operation again.
    Desktop = 7864, Handheld = 13
    OK Calendar with 1 message(s)

But, looking at the data it seemed most of the records had sync'ed. I then Hotsync'd again, and it completed with no msgs. Changed a record, and it syncs across so I think I am golden. I am backing up now, though!

Wow that's an enormous amount of records. I have always saved my file at the end of he year and started anew in the new year.

Memory is cheap, and I like having all my archival history (back to 2/98). The good news is the search function is still reasonably quick over that on the Treo 650.

Well, my optimism seems a bit premature. The situation is that I continue to get 'calendar synchronization failed' when I sync -- UNLESS I am syncing from a unit that has been warm reset. Something that the warm reset disables is interfering with the calendar synchronization. The good news is I do now have the PC & Treo in sync, so I can try wiping out one or the other to see if that fixes it. Curious!

edited to add: Coldstarting the Treo did not help. But, actually following the original instructions and hotsyncing with the calendar set to Handheld overwrites Desktop does seem to have cleared it.

The calendar is the only PIM that I ever have a problem with. The latest DB6 dbscan has always corrected the problem until today. It would not sync and when dbscan was run, it would cause a soft reset. I installed yesterday's backup and the same thing. I dropped back 2 days, gave it a go and it worked. I updated the calendar and it still worked. Ben

I have the same problem. Have you had any success?

FYI...when I say the same problem, I am referring to the previous post regarding the calender sync failing.

HELP! I am having the same problem. I followed the instructions and getting the same errors listed. I did a warm reset and it worked....until the next day. When I did the reset and sync, I lost all calander info...I did several Hotsyncs successfully..but like I said.I have the problem again. The only thing I did was enter some info??? Any suggestions? Thanks.

I still have a variation of the problem. My workaround is to boot in 'safe mode'; hold down the 'up' button while doing a soft reset. That keeps the phone and other software from loading. Then I can hotsync my calendar successfully, and warm-reset again to regain my normal functions.

Eventually I will save my backup folder, rename it, cold start to a new phone, and see if I can find the problem adding back program by program. But for now I use my workaround.

I dont know if this will help or not, but at my company the CEO's Treo kept on erroring out at the Calendar Sync. I tried the Dbscan and that didnt work at all. I tried different Treos and different newly reimaged machines and still nothing. At the end, the culprit was a few reoccuring meetings in Outlook with the end dates 12/31/4700. The admin assistant didnt realize it at first but making it end in the year 4700 was screwing up the Treo Calendar Sync. To think they could of just selected "No End Date" and that would of saved me a few days of headache!

Help! I have downloaded the dbScan and have followed the directions. I get the error message that the file cannot be installed. I am using MS Vista. I too have a Treo 650 and cannot hotsync. The original error message is hotsync failed - Calendar synchronization failed.

Do I need to relocate the dbScan file to another directory? When I try to open the file the Quick Install opens up.
