Dell has HSDPA air cards...so does Stinkpads and a few others.

Cingular's HSDPA 3.6 (3600 kbps max) as is currently being rolled out is 2-3 times as fast as EVDO's current incarnation based upon the EVDO demos being reported at about 700kbps. The fastest published instantaneously (max, not average) obtained speed under EVDO that I have seen is 1,100 kbps. At the CES show on Januray 5th, Cingular demonstrated d/l speeds of "around" 2,000 kbps. Now once bandwidth starts getting squeezed by lots of peeps streaming or whatever, I expect that will drop just as in real use we don't see EVDO's max speeds.

"CES 2006 - Cingular has successfuly completed the first HSDPA data call, right here at CES. Last night at a media event there was a laptop computer equipped with a 3.6Mbps HSDPA PC card and it was attaining around 2Mbps during normal use. This is significantly faster than EV-DO and could be a major boost for Cingular. The demo MobileTracker saw was a movie trailer on Apple's QuickTime site and they were downloading faster than real time."
Though the carriers are all pretty good at exagerating their coverage, as it seems they define "coverage" as having at least one tower in an area upgraded (usually at the airport ). At the time of the show, according to the independent report, verizon had 60 MMA's (major market areas) with full coverage, sprint had 45 and Cingular had 20. The report noted that verizon and sprint were "claiming" coverage in 180 and 150 markets respectively at that time. The only other thing I saw was a follow up to the original HSDPA report which said CNG had 51 MMA's as of March 1st. At that rate, should be at 98 by June 1st and 190 or so by December 1st. All carriers are claiming they will reach 90-95% of covered areas by year's end.

Duh on my part then....I tried deleting once or twice in the past after I found a new post I had made was already written under a title that I never woulda thought to post (or search) under. Now I know better. Thanks for the education .

I'd delete now except maybe the lesson will benefit someone else.
