While the 700p may seem like a minor update to the 650 it really isnít in terms of increased usability. If palm has really tweaked blazer to take advantage of EVDO perhaps people havenít considered how the increased speed with influence the Treoís usability. Think about using your treo w/ EVDO and the following apps:

Blazer Ė with the instant on of Palm and EVDO access, wouldnít you use Blazer more then twice as after as you do now?

PTunes Ė You will be able to stream in much high quality music and get access to better streams.

Kmaps Ė you will load maps and directions fast enough not to miss your turn.

PalmVNC or MobileTS Ė This is a big one. I think with EVDO these programs will actually become very usable and perhaps more important than Blazer. Blazer canít render all pages, thatís why I use MobileTS to surf those pages from my home computer. My only grip was that internet access was too slow to use this setup often.

How will EVDO change the way you use your Treo?

You can also tether as phone-as-modem unlimited for $40/month and get up to around 1Mbit/sec. Hopefully Slingbox or Orb will come out with a PalmOS client for video streaming your own content from home.
    Sprint Pre, Mugen 2800mah battery

EV-DO will not change the way I use my Treo -- I will not just do as much multi-tasking between Internet screen change line by line re-paints. (Right now it reminds me of my 386sx and 800 baud modem.)

My mobileTS connection to my work mainframe will be greatly improved.

EV-DO will greatly improve my user experience, a minor change, it is not.

    Cheers, Perry.

800 baud modem? 800? Where the heck did you find an 800 baud modem? My progression was 300 to 600 to 1200....we don't need no stinking 800 baud modems!

I'm a very slow reader...so I was always really comfortable with a 300 baud modem. I read as fast at the text would appear.

Man...I was an awesome ANSI artist, too! Who needs VGA?!

ANSI artist? My God, you're old. J/K, I bet quite a few don't know what you're talking about. I was pretty good with it, too. Most folks never loaded ANSI.SYS on their PCs, I always did.

OMG! THOSE WERE THE DAYS! (REMEMBER WHEN THEY INVENTED LOWER CASE CARDS FOR THE APPLE II? 80 COLUMNS OF TEXT AND you could stop yelling all the time!)

Is there an easy way to find out if your area has EVDO coverage?

If Palm doesn't improve the base multimedia capabilities of their OS they might find themselves in a sticky situation. And even if Palm enjoys sticky situations...ultimately it could make them blind the realities of the market.

I don't think that Palm should be submissive here...in fact, if they keep being coy, Windows Mobile 5 will definitely end up on top. And once Windows is on top it will dominate the market forever.

Just because Palm decided to climb into bed with both OS platforms does not mean they'll be able to effectively play on both sides of the fence. In fact, this kind of confusion can be hard-on Palm's consumers...really making them question their orientation.

Frankly, porn is so entrenched in our society that trying to avoid it can make each day feel like a long, hard challenge. And as porn becomes a major "player" in the handheld multi-media marketplace those days will seem even longer and harder.

But - in the end -- I'm sure we're all mature enough to deal with porn in this industry in a very mature and rational manner.
