I painted my 650 and it didn't turn out so well. I tried the Krylon Fusion at first (hammered black) and it turned out very sticky. I then turned to Pearl Black for models (Testors I think). Looked good at first, but when it dried it left fingerprints. After sanding again, I just brush painted with flat back for models. Turned out okay until 2 days later I tried putting it in the case.... paint scraped... So now I'm just looking for a replacement housing all together.

The Kustom Kolors for plastic model cars is awesome. Dries fast and sticks well. you do need to strip down to bare plastic.

    Avalible at Wal-Mart.

    I would use DuraCoat paint...
The case of the Treo is metal, right?

Duracoat has been specially formulated to withstand
the abuses of terrain and temperature. This coating
has elasticity to it that helps to deter chipping and
scratching that you normally get from lower quality
    paints.

I use it on all my weapons and it works great.

DuraCoat was made for metal, but I have used it on paintball guns (plastic) and never had a problem...

    Case is plastic.

I wanted to paint mine as well, but the selection here is limited.

There are some pretty nice spraypaint that says it will adhere to metal, wood, ceramics, pottery & is heavy dutey for outside use (which I read as "woun't chip).
Now they did not mention plastic, so I didn't buy it, but I am asking here: If it will bond to all that and is for outside furniture, would it be safe to assume it will bond to plastic?
I mean, furniture has plastic parts, surely they are expected to be painted by the same colour????

I plan to spray a shiny clear coat after that.

    ....

    What about car paint?

Can I use the same paint used for my car? Not the paint that is used for the metal body, I mean the one used for polyurethan & stuff. You think that would work?

Why not take it to a local (car) body shop? I am sure they can tell exactly what you need.

here is the best paint to use...

    http://www.kustomkolorpaints.com/kustomkolor/index.jsp

I plan on painting my motorcycle with this stuff (the plastics).

It is very easy to paint and dries quick. just make sure you strip the old paint. I used a compressor and baking soad to strip the old paint. You can also use sandpaper.

Im gonna get the colours I liked. it says its for wood & metal & outdoor furniture. My guess is if its for outdoor furniture It may work for plastic. I'll spray my 6110 & then clear coat it & see. I'll def. post pictures, but that'll take a couple of days.

I've got an idea guys/gals! Wht not get one of the rigid 'skin' case that T|C sells, then paint that whatever color you want! Hell, you could have one color for each day of the week.

Don't paint it go to 3gupload.com and get so skins for it that was you won't mess up your insur. or warrenty. Some cell phone companys wont service you if you mess with your cassing . At least this way your can take it off if you ever have to replace it and if your careful you can use it again not all the time will you get a second use of the skin.

Posting to subscribe too... I want to do SOMETHING about my scratched-up Cingular 650!
  17. #37
    OK, so I paintedmy treo!

Its Metallic Grey (Smoke) now just like my Altima with a Red face (stop sniggering)
I used outdoor / indoor furniture spray paint.
It said it was good for all surfaces but did not say anything about plastics. But since it said "furniture" I assumed they know some plastic would be there & dived for it.

I stripped it down, used masking tape to cover the parts I don't want to spray. I sprayed several light coats instead of one heavy one. It looked gorgeous like a new car bonnett. But it was matt.
Luckily, I bought a clear coat. I sprayed that liberlaly several coats. In the end it DOES look like a car body, all metallic & shiny!!

However, I will do it again because:

1- I did not wait for the clear to finish drying and touched it, now there are all sorts of prints on me phone
2- Paint flakes and chips. Very easily too. EXCEPT in areas that are WELL covered in layers of clear and is totally totally dry. So after a day or two its as sturdy as any phone out there!
3- I gotta use very light masking tape, because covering recently painted areas to paint another tone may cause the paint to come off
4- Just a note: putting the phone back together you may feel that its a bit tight now.
Paint added millmeters to its size. that wount be a problem if you know to cover the correct areas (basically, all interior sides)

I'll do chrome for the front again.

excellent! are you going to post any pics? I've tried spray painting before with not-so-great results, and I wanted to see what kind of finish you got...

    Here are mine

First is Kostom Kolor Kandy cobalt Blue over gold base

Second is the same but over a metallic silver base

The third is PS-12 silver, made by Tamiya and used for RC cars... looks dead on the Silver used on the Cingular phones. I think I used a silver base coat since that color is semi transparent.
