I just got the Treo 650 and I am reading the book, calling Sprint, visiting Sprint and still having the same problem.

I currently use Bellsouth as my ISP. I send and receive mail in Outlook Express. I tried setting up my VersaMail and I can receive mail but I cannot send mail. I get the error message: 502 Command is locally disabled.

Can anyone and I mean anyone help me fix this problem so that I can send emails?

I will so appreciate it for any help from anyone at this point.

    Thanks!

In your VersaMail account that you have set up -- use the Sprint server for your outgoing mail server instead of your ISPs:

    smtp.sprintpcs.com

Then under advanced, go to the Outgoing server Settings: page

    check "use authentication (ESMTP)"
enter your sprint username and password on the lines provided.

This should get your outgoing Treo/VersaMail mail working.

    Cheers, Perry.

Thanks for the quick post. I am so new to having this phone that I do not have a clue where to find the Sprint address or if I even have one.

Any help would be so helpful right about now!

    Thanks!

    Open VersaMail on the Treo
hit the menu button (right top key on keyboard)
    tap accounts
    tap account setup
select the account you wish to edit
    tap edit

    account name: whatever
    Mail service: Bell South?
    Protocol: POP

    next page

username: your Bell South user name
    password: Bell South password

    next page

Email address: your complete Bell South email address
incoming Mail server: mail.bellsouth.net ?? (whatever it is.)

    Outgoing mail server: smtp.sprintpcs.com

    next page

    select advanced
skip the incoming page set up by selecting next

fill out the Outgoing page as previously described

Call sprint to find out what your sprint email name and password are.

    Hope this helps.

You could also log into Sprint's website and see what your email addy and password are.
Why are ringtones always such a big issue? Don't people realize that they're obnoxious!? And why the Nintendo 'Wii'? What th-!?

Thank you both! I did exactly as you said. I called Sprint they gave me the info I needed and now I can send and receive emails.

Thanks so much. I truly appreciate all your help!

If I can add something important -- You can also set your BellSouth address as your return address in preferences under reply options. This way when someone hits reply their email won't go to your sprint account.
