I know EVDO is supposed to be much faster on the data connection, but is it seperate from the Voice side of things? Would it let me use the data connection and interrupt it to receive a phone call? Or will users still get sent directly to voicemail?

Yes, your data session, active or not, would be interrupted to receive incoming phone calls, but you cannot be on a call and use data simultaneously. This would require EV-DV, which Sprint declined to implement.

are you sure? that would be a step up and step down from the current 1xRTT implementation.

step up in that you could recieve a call when data session is active

step down that it would disrupt the data session (as currently it would just "pause" it, assuming your phone call wasn't too long)

I do not get your step down. Isn't the current setup if you are using the data connection (vision) then someone calling would get a busy? This seems to contradict the step up statement.

Every major carrier has decided against evdv. With everything going IP there is no point.

right now (meaning 1xrtt I assume) the call will go straight to voicemail if the data connection is active. EVDO will pause the download and let the call come in.

2 radios versus one- that is why.

So this is a big benefit in that I should not miss calls like I do now when downloading mail or getting some other online piece of data.

Technically EVDO is capable of receiving calls while in a active data session( If you answer the call the data session will be terminated) but you will need to get into the debug menu and change some settings. By default Sprint sets it to NOT allow calls while in a data session. Will theses settings be accessible on the 700P? I have no clue, they were on my A900.

I was not aware of that.

The 6700 is configured to interrupt data sessions in the event of a voice call right out of the box.

Must be a device specific thing...

Yes, the 6700 was one of the few devices to be configured out of the box to allow calls during data sessions. My A900 wasn't, But it did have the ability to toogle the NAI setting to avoid tethering monitoring by Sprint.

Who knows what set up the 700P will have I think a few people are going to be a little upset if the can't toogle off the NAI setting and therefore have ALL there tethering monitored and charged accordingly.
