Sorry if this is True, Lady Treo (but at least you will get a smaller phone)

Rec an email from a friend who's corporation has a fairly large account with Cingular.

Here are the excerpts from his message.

"THis is a copy of an exchange I had with the GC corp. Cingular rep as a
side matter to account issues I was sorting out with him today

    > when can we realistically expect to get a Cingular GSM Treo 700 and at
    what price point?

    >> As for the Treo 700w, we will not be carrying it. We have plans to
launch a different model Treo that is 3G capable in Q3 of this year.

    > Sounds good... that's the one I'm waiting for...

It must be the rumored Treo "Hollywood/800w"

    (Hope it has WiFi...!)"

I had emailed this friend earlier tonight about the "Hollywood" and sent the picture that was posted on TC. Earlier today he had mentioned that he wanted the 700W.

I know I may take a hit on this but I think that it is plausible and someone may have posted similar information. Sorry if it is a re-post.

    Cheers to my friend Perry!

    Thanks for the info!
Guess I'll be waiting for a long while.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

Could it be 700P with 3G radio instead of EVDO? Seen a lot of discussion on how long a company gets exclusive rights to a phone and if Sprint only got 5 months instead of 6 with a projected (maybe) release date of end of may that would put the 700P in cingulars 3 quarter wheelhouse. How long did Sprint have the 650 before cingular got it?

Personally, I think Palm would be stupid to release Palm based Treo700 around June. Its almost time that Verizon exclusive right for Treo700W will expire. So it means that other carriers will be in line already for releasing Treo700W. Is Palm thinking of releasing Treo700W (beside Verizon) and Treo700P at the same time???? This is stupid. And there is lowrider or hollywood treos awaiting later in the year. Its like competing yourself. That is why I think they have to release Treo700P today so I can buy it tomorrow and play with it this weekend
Technological superiority has never won a product battle. If that were the case we would all be flying in supersonic Concordes and using Apple computers.

The key to winning the battle is a combination of price, convenience, marketing, sound business model and a bit of luck.

IIRC, Sprint model was announced in September 04 ond on shelves in early October....AT&Tingular released on Feb 4th, 5th or so. And, technically the 650 GSM already has a 3G radio (EDGE) tho many of us jokingly refer to it as 2.5G cause it's not as fast as EVDO IRL (in real life) because of latency. The next GSM Treo will have UTMS / HSDPA. Assuming good signal....

    EDGE average speed about 220
    EVDO average speed about 1000
HSDPA 1.8 average speed about 1000
HSDPA 3.6 average speed about 2000

As for exclusives, remember Sprint coud have an exclusive on the 700p preventing anyone else form launching a 700p within say 3-4 months....but an exclusive on the 700p wouldn't necessarily block Palm from selling an 800p to anyone else....especially of some 3rd party group imports them from UK.

Yes, 800p is a rumored number designation for the "Hollywood" model. But like the press webcast for the 700w back in the end of September they still hadn't officially settled on a number designation and that was released in 1st week of January. I would venture to guess that any exclusivity agreements have sales figures tied to them. If Verizon had proced the thing high or did lousy marketing job, Palm would be stoopid not to have an "out" if they were not selling.

So my guess is that they won't choose anumber till way later in the game. On one hand, if they were releasing an HSDPA 1.8 model with same form factor, I would say the 700p/700w monicker would be appropriate for the next GSM phone.

But since Hollywood has a completely different form factor, and it would seem to be a real marketing ***** to limit speeds to 1.8 when Cingular's network is already HSDPA 3.6, logic dicates a new number designation. How could one 700p be 6.3 ounces with an antenna and another 700p be 4.8 ounces with no antenna, different MoBos, different KB's, etc ?..... Would make it a real PITA for parts management ... "No I don't need that part for that 700p, I need it for the other 700p."

But again, we are all guessing at this based upon leaked stick reports and pictures. Granted these same elaks / pictirs / rumor siurces etc were right on for the 700w and now the 700p, it it's still a percentage guessing game at this point. many prototypes never do make it to market.

Do we know if the Cingular version will be WM or POS? I am only buying if it is WM5

I think it will be the GSM 700p, not the GSM Hollywood.

And it will **** off alot of antenna-bashers.

What evidence do we have to think "HOLLYWOOD" or "LOWRIDER" will be anything other that the same form factor as the 700w or 700p CDMA phones? It seems to me you can still have "4 new Treos in 2006" if Palm releases the 700w and 700p GSM phones. Does anyone have anything other than a vague rumor about a different form factor? It certainly does not conform with Palm's 600 or 650 release model which was GSM in the same form, just with a later release.

I am not so sure that the Sagio Investments "Palm Roadmap" leak could be qualified as a vague rumor.

    Cheers, Perry.

Well, I don't know if Sagio was right or not, but if Palm launches a GSM phone in Europe by just snapping off the antennae of a 700w, they can kiss their a$$&$ good bye in that market. Just look at what the Euro market gets offered by all of the stylish cell phone designers - and they ALWAYS get the newest most feature rich gadgets (i-Mate ring a bell?).
Remember, the "P" in PDA stands for personal.
If it works for you, it is "P"erfect.
