    Here is what I mean:
More emphasis on streamlining the whole package, click on a podcast link in the browser, it brings up ptunes. Gotta video link? It will bring up Core Media Player. Or better yet, give us a new media program altogether.

I love the Palm OS, but it seems rather fragmented compared to the direction that WM5 is headed. I just hope that they can streamline this aging Garnet.

While not 100 percent necessary, some flavor of multi-tasking would be nice.

If Palm included Chatter in the new Treo, that would add more credibility to the corporate user sales pitch, IMO.

All this being said, I have owned most of the WM devices on the market and have always come back to Palm. But I did like the way WM handles media better.

I highly doubt chattermail would be included. Versamail is what'll be included on the 700.

Chatter was more of a "wishful thinking" comment.

On a side note, there has been a lot of debate over whether wifi needs to be included. IMO it is becoming more and more important, especially as more hot spots and cities using blanket wifi pop up.

I don't know if I have much use for voip right now, but as the technology evolves, that might change.

Naw, I don't think so. Chances are they're going to cater to the lowest commmon denominator and that's it. Wi-Fi isn't a big deal to me(especially with EVDO), but yeah, it'd be nice.
Why are ringtones always such a big issue? Don't people realize that they're obnoxious!? And why the Nintendo 'Wii'? What th-!?

Yeah, EVDO speeds really start to make wifi a mute point. Besides, connecting to the EVDO network will be quicker than turn on wifi, finding an access point, connected, etc. Trust me, if the preproduction 700p I had for a couple days is any indication, you'll be happy. Hopefully they'll be including Docs2go8 and ptunes in the ROM as well as a slew of tweaks that we'd normally ahve to use programs like butler or ringo for.

What happened to your 700p anyway?

If I recall correctly, Merlyn3D said palm took it back.

Well, that really blows. How did they even know who to take it back from?

And why would you even WANT Chatter in the ROM, with as often as updates are released?

Well on the subject of the thread title, I'd say this:

    1. Verizon gets to work out most of the hardware bugs so anyone following should be better off.

    2. Verizon tends to test longer and harder anyway so the 700w was better off.

    3. The first 700p carrier out the door will be the most problematic.

    4. The 2nd and 3rd out the door will have the benefit of everyone's debugging and user feedback before them.

    5. I ain't jumping in till all that bleeding edge stuff is over. I have hired Vikingjunior and Perry as my personal testers.

And BTW, my treo was fine outta the box...and is still fine, for daily updates , please see

    Speaking of personal testers. . . . .

Hey Jack -- PM the link to your clean install again --- I need to start acquiring the software mentioned for my Clean Install to the 700P.

    Cheers, Perry.

No, it does not. I'm tired of being told I need to just use EVDO.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

I have to agree with LT. EVDO is not ubiquitous. Even where it is handy, WiFi is usually better when available (think hotels, etc.), and in a home or office networking situation it is superior.

I know I'm beating the dead horse, but when other manufacturers (HTC, Samsung) can furnish WiFi with EVDO in the same form factor, AND at a LOWER cost than Palm releases a Treo, then it is not just a luxury.
Remember, the "P" in PDA stands for personal.
If it works for you, it is "P"erfect.

I agree, with the price we pay the device should have WiFi and EVDO. The form factor should allow both.

    LOL

Jack, I printed this list out and started looking at it. Then it dawned on me. The fact that you had this list is truly scary. Much appreciated, but scary!

Here we go with the wi-fi debate again

We aren't beating the dead horse, we're NUKING it

While I admit it'd be nice to have the option, I see wi-fi as being kinda redundant. Sure, EVDO isn't ubiquitous, but neither is wi-fi. Not having multiple ways to connect to the net just isn't a deal breaker for me. And you can't expect Palm to follow around their less successful competitors. If Palm includes wi-fi in the next Treo, then that will be great. But I think we all know that isn't going to happen. Palm might dance around the issue, but the bottom line is that they don't want people making free wi-fi phone calls. If you're holding out for a Treo with integrated wi-fi, quit complaining already and just move on to other devices. It isn't going to happen.

Once again, worldwide, Palm is NOT really a giant! Only in the US. They seem to want to compete globally now. So if they want to do that, they need to get with it!

HTC and Samsung are hardly less successful than Palm!! Samsung just put out 2 UMTS phones for Cingular! HTC has so many popular devices out, maybe they need to slow down!

Palm was the WORLDWIDE leader in 2005, and currently controls around 45% of the handheld market. You don't consider that competing?

Very selective replying by the way LT I love how all my other points get ignored. Maybe you should change your name to 'Lady Windows'?
