Put it all together, and you get abcdefg.

The length of this thread and the number of similarly titled threads here at TreoCentral is a testament to the blindness of the majority of forum users here.

I think Palm will release something, it's just the question of when.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

Smart move.....feel sorry for the dude who let it oiut of his NDA's hands.

Tho the least Palm coulda done was offer you a replacement when the real thing came out.

I can find nothing in print from Verizon or Palm saying exclusivity period is six months.....see them two saying there is an exclusivity period but no length stated ... by them anyway ...see many sites offering an opinion that it is six months ... others saying 3 months.

Yikes I missed that post. I would have wanted my expenses covered or a replacement once it was released.

Jack, take our word for it those of us who were on the release announcement it was made very clear. Secondly, search on google for: Verizon 6 month exclusive on Treo700W

You will find 116 hits. Why continue to distrust everyone on this?
  13. #113
OK, I just did a Yahoo search on "Verizon 3 month exclusive on Treo700W and got 161 hits and 138 hits on google.....so since 138 is bigger than 116 shall we assume then it's 3 months ?????

    Using your search...

Hit 1 - "Ya gotta believe (No Tug McGraw reference) that Verizon will have at least a 6 month exclusive on it before GSM carriers can run with i"

Hit 2 - another poster on a forum same thing.

Hit 3 - "Overall, it looks like each of the large US wireless carriers have placed their ‘Treo bets’ as will each have their own ‘signature’ Treo smartphone for an exclusive period of up to six months in 2006. Verizon will have the CDMA 700w running Windows Mobile while Sprint will have the CDMA 700p running PalmOS and finally Cingular will have the new GSM Treo “Hollywood”. Meanwhile, the mid-market Treo “Lowrider” may become a model that all carriers take on board to appeal to a wider market."

Now if you put "6 month" in quotes you down to 6 hits on yahoo. First is how long introduction was in future, 2nd and 3rd are forum posts quoted above. 4th is a forum post, 5th is a repeat of 1st post in different page format and 6th is yet another forum post. can't belive the entire googling, Yahooing world Can't come up with one authoritative post on the subject from Palm, MS or Verizon.

    All I find is this:

    http://www.palm.com/us/company/pr/ne...l?reqid=760974
    http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/p...obilityPR.mspx
    http://news.vzw.com/news/2005/09/pr2005-09-26b.html

Now if it was in fact stated in the release announcement which I am listening to as I type, (accessible from the MS site) I can't imagine that all these trade press sites would be writing 3-6, 4-6 etc and using words like "probably".

OK got to the Q & A and about the 3rd question hit the mark.

At the 34:00 minute mark Ed Colligan is asked directly about the exclusivity agreement and says "Verizon Wireless has been a great partner of ours and they are going to have a period of exclusivity on this product, we certainly plan to bring it to other networks ... other network technologies over time but it will be some time in the middle of next year before that happens".

"In the middle of next year" to me would mean anytime between May 15th and August 15th. However marketing types could defend anything between April 1st and September 30th with a straight face. There is certainly no mention of the number six in that answer. In addition, his manner of answering and body language implied to me that he wasn't dancing around the question.

My overall impression was that he wasn't sure and it wouldn't be ridiculous to assume that the exclusivity period may be tied to sales....like sports figures salaries are tied to performance, this may very well be tied to how well the device meets sales expectations....if it flopped, I imagine Palm would cover its bets and have an out which would allow them to keep a revenue stream coming.

Now having joined the set of what you referred to as "those of us who were on the release announcement" group, despite your protestations, I got to hold with my original position. No mention is made in this announcement of a 6 month exclusive. The only statement is "in the middle of next year" which makes a 3 or 4 month exclusive as valid as a 6 month one as both fall into the "mid year" range. Until someone can point me to a published source, I am still gonna still hold that none of the three players has given any specific indication as to the length of this exclusivity period.

And let's not forget to note that a 700p might not be considered as violating any exclusivity agreement. Said agreement could just as easily be written to say that Palm will not release a WM5 device for 3-6-12 months. We just don't know as we haven't be given anything but vague generalities.

Despite the now established "mid year" vagueness of statements regarding the exclusivity agreement, my personal projection based upon other hints is that we will see an announcement regarding the next Treo sometime between April 15 and May 15 with it hitting the shelves within 10 - 60 days thereafter.

Ed also said there will be a UTMS phone on WM in the second half of the year. When they have the announcement on the 700p, the question I want the Treo Central guy in the audience to ask is "Is this the last Hi end Palm OS Treo or will WM5 be relegated to the hi end "Hollywood" line and the Palm OS to the Low rider line ?
