    Palm's PRPRPR $agency$ $has$ $released$ $a$ $statement$ $to$ $the$ $media$ $regarding$ $their$ $official$ $response$ $to$ $the$ $RIM$ / $NTP$ $settlement$. $In$ $response$ $to$ $a$ $large$ $number$ $of$ $questions$ $from$ $the$ $news$ $media$, $Palm$ $has$ $issued$ $the$ $following$ $statement$:

    "We have long believed that a settlement between these parties would be the eventual outcome. We have remained focused on competing in the market by delivering choice to our customers based upon open, standards-based products that win in the marketplace. Palm's partnerships with Good Technology and Microsoft are attracting a growing number of customers. In the United States, we are gaining share of the smartphone market faster than any other supplier, including RIM. We think our momentum will continue as more and more companies understand and deploy our solutions."

    the fact that they even issued a statement tells me that they are concerned about the impact of this settlement on their business. (and probably it's impact on their stock price.)

    I am not sure what positive purpose this statement will have for Palm.

    That doesnt sound like they are worried. No company can make such a statement if it isnt true, especially when their earnings report will come out in 2 weeks when they will release all that info.

    Reason they made the statement was the press kept calling them asking for a statement.

    Surely you see the irony of this. The 1400 threads about the 700p, which are full of speculative nonsense, are ok, but a repost about blackberry is "noise" that must be stopped?
