[QUOTE=shadowmite]Let me just say, palm is NOT going to have wifi in this 700p built in that we know of. I seriously doubt they would add it either after a few test models have not had it, nor the 700w.

Palm has in the past released a 600 and a 650 model saying they would be capable of third party sdio devices... They never have worked with wifi.

    QUOTE]

The only reason I think it might be different this time is that the 700W does support a wifi card, and the hardware seems to be basically the same. So the only question is whether Palm will support POS drivers. I'm a bit more optimistic now that they're supporting it on at least one Treo.

The rest of the article is pretty good. Talks about replacing a laptop with a 650.
Palminfocenter states that they are trying to verify PCWorld's claim about mid 2006.

I hope they are wrong and Perry is right!

Just wished that we could strike back and let Palm know that it needs to take care of their customers. But there is no other phone out there for us with CDMA phones that would meet our needs!

(Of course, my "announce" date prediction of 2/22 was right on target.)

I still believe in APRIL !!

Geez -- I have lost track of how many times I have saved and spent my 700P $450 during this Silly Season.

I am still hopeful for April as a release date and not the annoucing of the Treo 700 P. Palm needs to take care of the people that have made it strong!!

I do not know what I will do if they release the windows version 1st?? (guess I will use it for a month or two and give it to my wife and get the 700P when it is released.

Of course I do not understand why Palm will give Europe the "Hollywood" and have the 700 P and 700 W users lusting. The US has been the base for Palm's strengths. Release the Hollywood on Sprint too Palm!!!!!!!!

You do realize that most people are sure that the Hollywood is WM, right?

I too would love to see this on Sprint, provided it has 64MB RAM.

I was only half paying attention as I was working on something but they did mention that customers will now have its choice between Windows and Palm. They also raised the question about the competitors and intergrated WIFI. Palm brushed off the question and talked about all the carriers deploying high speed internet. They also talked about going after the european market with new releases.

Basically it was alot of go team go hoopla, but hearing that there not giving up on the Palm OS was juicy.

As much as I would like to give you some Slinky like infomation I cant, no mention of specfic models.

Actually, I found it and am listening to it now (it's supposed to be archived for 30 days, I think). You can find it here:

I think we will see the Treo 700p before July. Palm always releases new handhelds in the Spring. I think they want to give the 700w enough time to be the "top of the line" Treo, but I am not buying the whole "no new Palm OS Treos until the summer."

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling the 700p is much closer than we all think.

I think Jimmie is right. In fact, on some other sites they are saying no new WM Treos till mid 2006. That leaves a 700p wide open.

HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

Why? If it works for you -- you shoulddo it! There is no one perfect PDA for everyone -- but for each one -- there is a perfect PDA. I hope everyone finds their "perfect" device, whatever flavor it may be!

    Hi...

Thanks for all of the great information. Even the hype is enjoyable.

This is my first post -- so what the heck do I know. But, I have serious doubts that we will see Wi-Fi built into future Treos anytime soon. Data Services are such a huge money maker for the Cellular Companies, so they will do anything to prevent non-revenue generating Internet access on their network's phones. If you are a phone manufacturer, I'm sure that Sprint, Verizon, etc., will tell you, "if you want your phone certified for our network, it can't have built-in Wi-Fi."

Cellular companies are very reluctant to permit users to sync their own personally created ring tones onto their phones. Why? Worldwide revenue for selling ringtones in 2004 was 4 billion (yes, with a "B").

So, alas, built-in Wi-Fi is probably not in our near future. I hope I'm wrong, however.

Most major US carriers allow ONE built-in wi-fi phone, ONE. When there are actually MANY models available. Oh yeah, now T-Mobile has two.

    Hi Tom!

I am not so sure it's a revenue protection thing. IF a TREO had built in WiFi, how many of us would NOT sign up or keep our unlimited data plans, as well? (At least on Sprint at $10, those paying $40 and $50 might consider it.) With unlimited plans -- the cellular company has your money -- and is probably hoping you DON'T use the service to keep the bandwidth open -- so, in this regard -- they would prefer you to use the WiFi instead of the EV-DO or whatever you have, to keep traffic on their system down. If everyone was paying by the kb (and therefore more usage = more revenue) I could see them not wanting an alternative built into the device.

    Cheers, Perry
