    I just tried this link that Shadowmite provided, and noticed a ton of Treos running TMo or Cingular that show very fast speeds. (Do a search for 'Blazer', and several GSM entries come up before VZW or SPCS). I don't want to add to the speculation, but perhaps someone is trying out Hollywood?

    ...to answer your question I'm pretty sure dslreports.com is a website that tests the speed of various devices.
    Go here if you're tired of being .
    It'll be fun.

    That's right, but it's a GSM device. And so are the next 10 or so. Can Edge go that fast? Is it safe to assume that someone's using a GSM device on Cingular/TMo that's faster than what we have on Verizon/Sprint?

    Right, and would the presence of several 180k Treos using TMo or Cingular not indicate that someone is testing the next-gen GSM Palm Treo?

    I thought current gen EDGE has peak speeds of about 200k (average of 70-135), but next gen HSDPA was to average 400-700.

    i'm pretty sure that edge can get that fast in the right settings (where you are, number of people using the tower, etc.)
    several regular phones -> sidekick 2 -> treo 650 -> hopefully 700p

    check this image out. From http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1770853,00.asp

    It's an old article so it doesn't have HDSPA upgrades to UTMS. Seems they pretty much skipping HDSPA 1.8 and moving right into HDSPA 2.6 which is about the same speed as the cable modem in the chart.
