All what has been said and shown in this thread can be true as much it can be fake.

Still hope that Palm will role out some more than what has been spread so far.
Aero I hope that you arent implying that this was a hoax by Merlyn?

Come on now this is obvious a Palm leak. After the much publicised retarded "800p" rumor. I don't know if we should thank or blame engadget/gizmodo for that.

I am impressed by Palm's tight lip security this time around. They almost pulled an "One More Thing" on me.

Not at all. Read my post again! But we will have final confirmation only when Palm makes it official. Agree?

I was on the road late yesterday afternoon and last night for 7 hours and then to log on to find 39 pages of posts was overwhelming. Great info.-good job to Meryln, shadowmite and (gfunk-the summary was very helpful).

    Man, I am ready.

Yes, but he said 62+ right after a hard reset. On a normal NVFS device, like a TX (I have one), you do a hard reset, and ROM (Intel Strataflash, I believe) apps are loaded into RAM (NAND Flash). Immediately after the reset, you lose something like 10MB. In the 700p, you dont lose this, meaning that the memory architexture is probably different. It may use NOR flash memory, that lets you read from ROM, though not run from ROM (It can RA read, but it cant RA write). We'll have to see. I am sure the truth will be revealed soon.

Did anyone by chance capture the irc postings? I sure would like to read a transcript. Also, did Merlyn post anymore pictures? I don't understand why getting pictures seems to be so difficult. I would have taken pictures of every screen display there is by now.

The 700P is real. The only thing keeping it would be palm not releasing it to the general public. There is a 700p and we have the ROM to prove it. `

Shadow might have the transcript, Merlyn did post a picture in this thread. Also, the reason, from my understanding, that there isnt more pics is because he got an offer to buy it. The buyer wanted the pics kept to a minimal so he could sell the pics.

Well, as much fun as I had playing devil's advocate, I guess I have to concede it's the real thing. Whether or not it will ever be released in this configuration is another question entirely.

I am still confused about a couple "secretive" aspects though, such as how it was aquired...did Merlyn ever confirm craigslist? Also, why no screenshots AT ALL from the device, especially showing the newly included apps like SprintTV? And a COMPLETE picture of the front of the device? A picture next to another Treo to show the size difference would be nice too. Why not a quick video showing it in use?

It just seems to me that there are dozens of ways Merlyn could have proved the device is real aside from dumping the rom and having Shadowmite confirm there are new files. While I, and I'm sure most here, believe Shadowmite, doesn't that still leave room for skepticism? Irrefutable proof would be SO EASY. It just makes me wonder why that has been avoided.

Either way, it's a ho hum device in my opinion anyway. My 650 is very stable. I have no memory issues. And I use GSM, so EVDO is a non factor as well. But it doesn't leave much hope for a big leap forward in a new device. Oh well....fun thread nonetheless.

    Great thread!

Can someone explain what it means to have a "huge" dbcache? I can imagine it's a good thing to have more memory, but what does it mean for the user? How big is it on the 650? Thanks.

No, what we have is a ROM from a device that Merlyn has (or had?)

This may be different from what you or I eventually get.

The reason why I think they made the button change layout (menu at bottom and green and red phone at top) is because the treo users (who are not power users) simply never use the menu button, when I show it to them they are totally unaware of what it does. Therefore, I think that is a wise move to make it easier for novices(prosumers and business) to use.

At first I did not like the idea, but now it makes more sense to me. I got used to it on the older treos, can do it again.

I want to know more about the software enhancements. EVDO and software enhancements will urge me to upgrade to this device. I hope I can just wait at least a day or two after it becomes available.
