I've just seen a bit of a worrying sight on a few of the Treo websites I visit. Take Treobits for instance - I was scrolling down the page and kept seeing news about "new/updated software for Treos" and realising it was for Windows Mobile, not PalmOS.

Now I have no problem with the 700W, in fact I'm glad of anything that takes Palm products to a wider audience. However, I bought my Treo 650 solely because it was a PalmOS based phone and I liked the fact that I could use all my old apps and would (usually) have a great level of compatibility with other PalmOS devices. I also appreciated the community that comes with owning a PalmOS device. Now I feel that the news and information I read on my regularly visited websites is no longer aimed at this type of user.

It's almost like going to a performance car website and finding 60% of the articles are about motorbikes.

I guess I'm worried that I will now have to thoroughly read any articles just to find out if they are even relevant to my device. I wonder how many websites will be making the change to support Windows Mobile in addition to PalmOS?

I second your statements above, and I must admitt that this is better over at MTDN because of the oportunity to choose "New by board"...

I haven't found such functionality on the TC forums, and I am (as you) stuck with loads of treads and posts not relevant for me.

I don't mean to say that WM stuff and users ain't welcome here. Only problem is me wanting to choose just POS related info...

I am reading a lot more on TreoCentral about other devices (Treo 700w) whereas before I seldom read anything but Palm related post. It's been exhausting since the 700w was relased. Hoping I can see how what maybe release in the future (in my case the 700p). I feel I maybe getting some insight of what the 700p may look and function like.

So as soon as the 700p is release, and assuming I get it, I feel I will be able to get back to basic and focus more on limited area.

I have asked if it is possible to exclude certain forums in New Posts and searches in a separate thread. No responses so far.

I would exclude 700w forums (I'm not interested in those) and 700w owners should be free to exclude POS forums...

I'm with you all the way. Since my M-100. Got my first Treo when Sprint/PalmOne gave us the 300. I have no plans to go with WM. But have waited to update my 600 for a 700P for a long time. But will must likly go with a 650 as the prices fall. Long live Palm OS

I agree with you on this aprasad, and there would be a hell of a lot more that I would exclude. I think I remeber you posting this request.

I very much support the concept of better filtering Palm vs WM on TC Forums. I got my first Treo 300 as an upgrade from my Visor Prism and plan to stay with the PalmOS for as long as possible.

Although the forums are not overly frustrating YET, I think it is just a matter of time before Palm/WM topics are so mixed that reading "new posts" is not worth the time.

I guess I don't want to be TOTALLY shielded from any Treo WM stuff....who knows, there may be a time when I want to switch over to WM. I just would like to see more filtering options.

I have been a windows mobile user for years and I do prefer it as a OS, but I have grown tired of carring two devices and the Treo was/is the best smartphone hands down!! It might not be my OS of choice but it is damn good device.

Sorry about the incomplete post above-I'll delete it when I get to my laptop.
In 1996 the PalmPilot was just about the only game in town. But now that there's competition ouitside & inside the Treo family, I would paid more attention to features.

I choose the 650 not so much for the os (because I really do prefer WM) but for the form factor. I honestly have to say that it is amazing. There is no other phone out there with this great form factor. Don't get me wrong I did own a zire 21 for a bit. It was my first pda. So owning another palm os was not that big of a deal. But I have to admit that wow if I would have know how gretthis phone was I think I would have bought it a long ime ago. But I am really waiting for the gsm version of the 700W. Now that is a dream phone for me.

I totally purchased it due to the fact that it is a Palm OS. I've used several Palm OS devices previously, & I'm a big fan of it!!! It hasn't let me down.
    I'm not weird... I'm gifted!!!

I got mine because it worked with a Mac. Windows Mobile was difficult to use with Mac. I found that Palm was not as versitile as Windows, but I got used to it quickly and love it now. With the new Treo 700w, Palm users will find that the extra memory, that it seems to have, will be used quickly as it handles memory differently.

I bought a PalmPilot in 1996 because it was exactly what I was longing for: a paperless planner that was not tethered to the wall with a 110 cord. The PalmOS was simple and easy to use. The Treo 650 continues the string -- it is exactly what I want.

    Except for EV-DO.

    Cheers, Perry.

Ive been using Palm OS since my black and white Verizon 6035. I got the phone PDA for its features. I love the POS, but if I can get better funtions with another OS than I might change. But it would have to be a MAJOR change as my 650 does everything I need it to right now.

I use the 650 because it does everything I need and it does it well. Yes, I had to buy software to make it do everything I wanted.

You should see the list of stuff I've had to buy to make my computer do whay I need it to do. MS Office for email, Word, Excel and Powerpoint. 6 varied graphics programs, Nero for CD and DVD burning, Ghost for backup and Adobe Acrobat for PDF. Plus a ton more.

I am by no means Palm OS loyal, I definetly got the phone for it's feature set, keyboard, screen, expansion card slot, and the applications that are available that makes it that more unique. So I think the applications make the phone so superior.

If they move to a stable windows platform with stable available applications then off to windows it is.

I agreee with Viking. I don't own stock in Palm and don't have a dramatic loyalty to them. But, the Palm OS Treo is meeting my needs well. I'm so comfortable with it, that the time required to master a new OS would have to be offset with significantly better features. Time will tell...
