I lost my 650 I had with sprint. Fortunately I had equipment protection plan. Got the new one in mail yesterday.

    A) Do I just sync it with PC that has old phone's details on it or do I delete everything and reninstall the software and then sync with the new phone ?

    B) How do I check what version of the software/firmware I have on this phone and does it need an upgrade ? Which one is the latest ?

    TIA

    B. Open Phone and do a Menu-Options-Info

    A. The new phone will not have any Hotsync ID on it. When you hotsync for the first time with it, it will ask you (on the PC) to pick an existing ID or create a new one. Pick the old ID you were using. Hotsync will transfer all your old files and applications to the new phone

    Thanks Mr. Prasad

    B) I don't even remember the ID. It was set up well over a year ago and never needed it again to sync

    A) When I go to Menu --> Options, I have only 2 available choices. Preferences and About Applications. Howvever when I go to Menu -->App, I see Info button. And it takes me to size as default which shows how much free space I have. Then I scroll to version and it shows Palm OS Garnet v.5.4.8

This looks lot different than my old 650, I think. Is this how it's supposed to be ? How do I know if mine needs software/firmware upgrade ?

Open Palm Desktop on your PC. The Hotsync ID is in the top right corner. Unless you created multiple ID's (one would typically do that if more than one person in the household had palm devices and were sharing the PC), it should be pretty obvious as to which ID to pick when you hotsync this time with the new device.

You need to be in the Phone application and have the Phone on (not disconnected from Sprint). You are looking at the Applications launcher and not the Phone (where you dial out to make phone calls ...).

Check here for updates for Sprint Treo 650's

    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl...#treo650sprint

It appears that Treo650-1.12a-SPCS is the latest.

OK thanks for staying with me here Aloke

    A) How do I know if I need this or I already have it ?

    B) I have never used the voice dialing. Does my phone have it ? This new phone didn't come with any manual.

    Should I install this ?

    A)
    That page says:
Press Phone/Send , press Menu , then press I (Phone Info).
Under Software, look for an "a" after the number.
Example: Treo650-1.12a-SPCS. The "a" means your device was updated successfully.

Since yours does say that already, you don't need to update.

    B)
VoiceDial is a 3rd party application that is usually on the Treo software CD. Palm is pushing it, but it is not free. Don't worry about it if ypu don't need a
    voice recognition software.

It's on the CD which should have come in da box with your phone. If not you can download it here:

    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downl...cedialing.html

Try it free for 14 days. I took the 14 day trail and bought it after 15 minutes of usage.
