All of my Outlook Contacts have phone numbers listed in the following format:

    (xxx) 123-4567

When I pick one of those Contacts to call, I cannot find an easy way to prefix the number with "1". I am hoping that there is an easy answer to my question, as I do not look forward to editing every one of my Contacts.

    Thanks for your help.

Is dialing "1" first really necessary with your phone/carrier combination? It's not with mine (Treo 650 / T-Mobile). In any case, if, under, Dial Prefences in the Phone app, you check, "North American Dialing" and "Always dial +1 in front of the area code", you shouldn't have to change any of your contacts.
    V > Vx > m505 > m515 > T/T > T3 > TC > 650 > 680

Bill, I hate to admit this, but I cannot find 'Dial Preferences' in the Phone App. When I select the phone application, I am taken to the screen that has the keypad on it, and if then go to preferences in that screen, 'Dial Preferences' is not a choice given to me. If I go to General Preferences, I can't find 'Dial Preferences either.

Where am I not looking to find these dialing preferences?

What kind of phone are you using?

While in the Phone app, tap the Menu button (to the right of the 5-way). Then select Options, Dial Preferences... from the menus.

When I do that, I do not see "Dial Options"... only General Preferences, Sound Prefernces, Phone Preferences, Phone Lock, Phone Info, Tips, and About. Even under Phone Preferences, there is only:

    - Enable Voice Privacy
    - Enable Long DTMF Tones
    - TTY/TDD Mode on or off

I live close to Vancouver B.C. Canada, and I have a Treo 650 from Telus Communications, one of our major Communication Companies, along with Bell and Rogers.

If your phone doesn't have the North American Dialing option screen, install TakePhone - it has that and a lot more.

That did the trick Bill... Thanks for the tip. It is a shame though that one has to spend so much on a phone, and then turn around and have to spend an additional $20 just to have it dial properly.

I am going to complain to both Palm and Telus about this shortcoming.

Thanks very much for everyone's help.
