    Call me slow, but reading the fine print at the bottom of the pages of this site tells me that this site belongs to Palm. I just realized that. It says "TREO and TreoCentral are trademarks or registered trademarks of palm, Inc. in the United States and other countries;
the TreoCentral mark and domain name are used under license from palm, Inc.
". So it's like, not only is Big Brother watching, his name is on the lease. Am I the last person that noticed that? It's just that I thought site was "for the users, by the users". My bad.

I hope "Big Brother" is watching and listening! TC should be mandatory reading for all Palm's Product Development people!

    Cheers, Perry.

I agree. I hope "THEY" do read this board.

I believe that only means TC has a license from Palm to use the Treo name since Palm has Treo trademarked. It says basically the same thing at the bottom of MTDN home page too. I don't think THE MAN is actually in control of this site.

I think that's what it means too, Twitch. But I wish they would read this site! Maybe they would learn to add wi-fi and 64 MB!
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

Yeah, that could be right, but what caught my eye is where it says "TREO and TreoCentral are trademarks or registered trademarks of palm, Inc." See what I mean? To me, that says the Treo name and the TreoCentral site belong to Palm.

I think "The Man" should stick it to himself...then he'd know the true pain.
The only thing that separates the men from the boys...is the lessons they learn.

I think Twitch was correct. TC received permission from Palm before using the name Treo. They are an authorized dealer of Treo products. That probably had something to do with them needing to get a license. I think anyone could put up a non-profit Treo fan board without getting a license, but once you start selling, it's a whole new ballgame.

All of the Palm and Treo related names either belong to Palm, or would, if Palm chose to pursue legal action. Rather than get into that situation, my guess is that TC allowed Palm to take ownership of the name and the doamian, and then licensed it back from them. This is really no different than being a Coca-Cola bottler -you own the plant and assets and so on, but license the right to put Coca-Cola on the bottle (yeah, they license the formula also, but it's pretty close).

If TC refused to take this approach, they stood the risk of developing a flourishing site, and having it shut down when a over-zealous lawyer decides they want control of the name and is willing to take the case to ICANN (they would definitely win based on precedence).

This does not mean the site is run or directed by Palm. As somebody mentioned earlier, sometimes it appears obvious that Palm does NOT monitor this site....

wayyyyyyy back, in the time of the Pilot (some of you remember those) I did some work with USRobotics. As a side business I worked with someone who started up a Pilot-centered website. The person who owned the web domain was approached in the manner I described.

I'm not that bright, just had a lot of jobs along the way....

I guess PalmGear needs to update their page. Since PalmSource no longer owns the name, Palm does.

oddly enough, maybe not, since Palm probably took over all the assets (names included), and the old names revert to Palm. Kind of like buying a house, all the previous owner's junk mail keeps showing up ...
