    Quick (hopefully) question:

Which file in my backups folder contains my contacts database?

Unless you're using something like BackupBuddy for Windows (or an app that marks all of your on-Treo databases to be backed up), you won't find it there. For the Treo 650, the file is ContactsDB-PAdd.pdb; for the 600 it's AddressDB.pdb.

As a rule, the actual database isn't backed up, but the information is synced with your Palm Desktop Contacts application. Set your Contacts conduit to "Desktop overwrites handheld" to restore your contacts.

    Yuk.

Thanks for the tip. I sync with a Mac generally. My VersaMail database corrupted my Treo to the point that I couldn't even touch the corrupted file to delete it without triggering a reboot. So, I did a hard reset. When all was said and done I lost my contacts.

Fortunately as a safety measure I sync with a second machine once a month (in this case a Windows laptop). I was able to recover my contacts from there, but I lost any changes in the last 30 days, including one contact that I really wanted to recover. (Hence my question.)

I guess things could be worse.

I think I'm going to find a way to print out all of my contacts monthly now as well. (I nearly had a heart attack until I remembered the second computer.)

Thanks for the feedback. It is most appreciated.

...and why couldn't you sync with your Mac? I think I missed that...

Great question. In my effort for brevity I failed to elaborate.

After my hard reset I renamed the backup folder (following the instructions in Palms KnowledgeBase.) After resyncing this *should* have restored my data and not my applications. (Which was what I intended.)

I noticed that my calendar and memos restored and I didn't check the Contacts. I then synced to my Mac (which overwrote it's local data, and the copy on my .mac account.)

That's when I noticed that there were no contacts. Whoops. (Fortunately I was able to restore from the Toshiba.)

Not an Apple fault .... it was the fault of the moron running the show. (Me)
