I was just curious what all the creative geeks out there have been doing with all their older palms? The thought of something as usefull as a palm collecting dust in the bottom of a closet somewhere makes me sick. As you could probably guess from my join date and by how many models that Ive been through on my signature that I have had my fair share. I have heard of using them as a controller for a robot, using the springboard on visors for a multimeter, barcodescanners... the everyday usefull posabilities are endless!! I gave shadowmite a palmV and he has mounted it in a hacked riceburner (sportscar) as a fuel pressure moniter and a data logger. I am currently using my old visor prism as a navagation unit for my car. This is a very creative community and I am curious what else has been done with these useful relics?

OK, that is really badass and I wish I could do that to my car.

I keep my Palm m515 in my right lab coat pocket to balance the weight of my stethoscope that is in my left pocket while my Treo 650 is clipped to my belt.
and it all started with a SHARP Wizard

That's basically what I still use my old Palm III for:

I'd love to mod my old hardware, and I've been meaning to pose the same question here on TC. I'm not too technical, but I follow directions really well. I've successfully Verizoned a buddy's 650 & hacked CVS's disposable camcorder, but I was only able to do this by following the instructions I found on the net. Can anyone recommend and pda-modding projects or sites? Thanks in advance!

Check out http://www.autoenginuity.com/products-scantoolpalm.html for the abilty to scan any obd-ii complient vehicle as well as track performance data. I use it in my 7.4l suburban to track LTFT and other values to get the ECU dialed in. Fantastic use of a old palm.

My car is a 94 and so it is only OBD I otherwise this is the first thing I would have done! Do you use it all the time or only when needed?

It is still new to me and the suburban still isn't running as right as I would like it, so at this point, I run it all the time. Plus, it is just really cool. I meen, as for making a 3/4ton truck nerdy, this does the trick. :-)

I enjoy collecting vintage PDAs and studying their history.

No, seriously! I wrote about it here:

    Nice article...

Wish I could find a use for my Visor Deluxe and 270 though. Tried using the Deluxe as a universal remote but found it to cumbersome. Found a universal remote that was free after rebate that did a much better job. Ever since my Deluxe and 270 have been collecting dust. The basic problem is that there are usually cheaper avenues for most apps you can use an old Palm for, and most work better. For anything else, it's better just to use my 600 for that function.
ROOTING for WebOS makes me more sympathetic to Cubs fans.

Hey Bob, thanks for checking out my web site.

By the way, I love your creative use of the Cornholio avatar, but my Giants will kick Philly's **** next week.
