MPlayer webOS Wrapper 1.0.2

MPlayer is a movie player which runs on many systems. It plays most MPEG/VOB, FLV, AVI, Ogg/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, RealMedia, Matroska, NUT, NuppelVideo, FLI, YUV4MPEG, FILM, RoQ, PVA files, supported by many native, XAnim, and Win32 DLL codecs. You can watch VideoCD, SVCD, DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5, WMV and even H.264 movies.

A while ago, Chomper from the Treo8 forums released a PDK-based MPlayer app for webOS. This is a separate unofficial continuation of that project. This project, however, is not PDK-based. Instead, it runs with a Mojo app frontend and a Node.js backend service (and a Java service, for backwards compatability with webOS 1.4.5 devices).

This offers several advantages. For one, cross-app launching can be used to let other developers open/stream videos in MPlayer. In addition, I've included the option to register MPlayer as a file handler, so MPlayer can be used as the system default player for extensions of your choice, allowing apps like Web, Email, and Internalz to use MPlayer without modification.

Supports webOS 1.4.5 and 2.x.

Mplayer binary built on Ubuntu 10.10 32bit Linux using the WebOS-Internals WIDK using the standard MPlayer source patched with a patch originally by Chomper and modified by WebOS-Internals for WIDK usage.

(armv7 is Pre/Pre+/Pre2, armv6 is Pixi/Pixi+)

Requires Homebrew JS Service Framework

Alternatively, if you want a feed-based solution, add the following feed url to Preware/WOSQI and it'll show up there. Note: it's not a compressed feed.

This might be a obvious question, but do we still install mplayer from warlord's post as well?
Edit: I found my answer I notice though with wosqi it adds /Packages to the feed and Mplayer won't show up. I can add feed via preware with no problem though. Just FYI.

Nope, this is MPlayer as a whole. I just called the thread "MPlayer webOS Wrapper" to differentiate it from the one Chomper made. With the exception of the Homebrew JS Service Framework, this package is all-in-one.

I installed through Preware by itself an it plays ogg fine. However, I don't see any media controls and I am not able to set as default handler. The prefrences menu pops up, but I can't select the option. I installed the framework and application on a Sprint FrankenPre Plus running 1.4.5

I added the feed and installed it through preware. I got the same error message when opening the app as warlord did.

Same Here on Sprint Pre2 running 2.1.0

I used Neato! and Preware to install...

K got it to install thru Preware but like FidelitySyndrom stated, I am not able to set as default handler.

Ok, played some videos on this and the sound kinda skips. This didnt happen on the first version of mplayer. Anyone else getting this?

There are no controls, afaik. I know for videos, there are these controls:

Code:

space - pause/play
D - jump forward a bit
A - jump backward a bit
Q - quit

Oh, I see the bug with the Preferences popup that you're talking about. I do a quick update in a bit.

Yea, I think there's a bug with WOSQI and larger files breaking the novacom connection. Just add the feed or install the ipk file with Internalz or Preware.

I'm using the same source code as listed in the WebOS-internals repo.

You can copy the old mplayer binary to /media/cryptofs/apps/usr/palm/services/ca.canucksoftware.mplayer/bin/ if you'd like to compare directly.

Running great on my phone @ 1.02mhz

Hmm. I have a pre plus running at 1 GHz. I tested .mpg, .avi and .wmv. All ran a little choppy.
