Do you have the latest version of Quick Install (4.04)? Quick Install v3 doesn't work with webOS 2 devices.

I was unable to connect to my Pre- from WOQI4, did the "(x86)" trick and all... Now I can connect perfectly. The difference? My Pre- now runs WebOS 2.1. And I've redownloaded latest WOQI version.

Version 3.14 did work five minutes ago on my Pre- with WebOS 2.1. And new version 4.04 works too...

    Sorry, you're right.
Maybe v4 is only needed for Pre2s?

I have a very strange bug with Quick Install v4.4.
Maybe it is because I packaged something wrong - but installing the package with Preware works. (The package is related to this thread.)
My directory structure, including the postinst and prerm script, see "appcat-autoreinstall-patch.zip".
I select in the Ipk Packager the folder "files".
    The created ipk

    postinst script:
    Code:
    mount -o remount,rw /

    mv /usr/palm/ipkgs/com.palm.app.findapps_2.0.20900_all.ipk /usr/palm/ipkgs/com.palm.app.findapps_2.0.20900_all.ipk.webosinternals.orig
    cp /media/cryptofs/apps/usr/palm/ipkgs/com.palm.app.findapps_2.0.20900_all.ipk /usr/palm/ipkgs/com.palm.app.findapps_2.0.20900_all.ipk
When installing via Quick Install, something really strange happens:
"/usr/palm/ipkgs/com.palm.app.findapps_2.0.20900_all.ipk" *and* "/usr/palm/ipkgs/com.palm.app.findapps_2.0.20900_all.ipk.webosinternals.orig" have both the exactly md5sum, although they should have both different.
When installing this package via Preware everything works fine.

There is also lots of output when executing QI via "java -jar", including a StackOverflowError at the end - so there's probably an infinite loop. See attached in "quickinstall-debugoutput.txt".

When installing the ipk via Preware, there are also some interesting (error?) messages - but I don't know if they are normal or caused by wrong packaging or the like:
    Code:

Any suggestions are appreciated! I don't know if this is a bug in Quick Install. But when instaling via Preware everything works as it should.

    The configurator errors are normal.

I just received a GSM Pre 2 from the developer program and updated it to webOS 2.1 last night. I didn't have Preware installed before upgrading and tried to install it this morning. When doing so, the quick installer stated that the device was not connected even though it was showing up in Windows Explorer.

Developer mode is enabled on the device and I had it in USB mode when running quick installer. I was trying to install version 4.04 of quick installer.

Is Preware currently incompatible with webOS 2.1 or are there additional steps that need to be taken?

    Thanks!

Yes, Preware works with webOS 2.
Don't put it in USB mode when using Quick Install, only select "Just Charge".

Have just doctored Pre2 to webOS 2.1.
Installed Preware using quickinstall, but it's search function seems broken. Typing search string in all applications view just makes the wheel spin endlessly.

Why don't you post this in the Preware feed?

    Just found it. Apologies.

Seems others already reported the search issue. Problem with a titleless app in the database.

In mean time, new Preware version fixes this.

The original poster should first confirm that they are installing the correct kernel for their version of webOS. Often getting the testing kernel feed name incorrect will stop the automatic version update code from working.

If that is not the cause, they should install the Palm Recovery Kernel, and then try again.

Can you please point me to the Palm Recovery Kernal(i tried searching i couldn't find it), my phone is sucking battery rapidly since the debacle other then things are normal.

Thanks all - had the weirdest time doing this; win764 PC - stuck on novacom reinstall, copying to 86 didn't work, reinstall/dev on-off didn't work, starting/stopping in services didn't work - nothing.

Went to a win764 laptop and it worked first try doing absolutely no changes - not even the 86 folder copy!!!

I need it working on the PC though - is there any other known fix aside from the folder copy? Folder named novacom, so can't try the suggestion from someone about changing the name. Palm folder in both program files and 86. Services / novacom points to the Palm one though, not 86. Is that the issue, and if so, can it be changed?

Thanks all! Yay for a shiny new Pre from palm, even if its still a stale old Pre minus
