I've had these gray buttons in all of my SMS messages, i was hoping this would fix it but for some reason it didn't.

I've read elsewhere other's having this problem and they fixed it by unzipping webos doctor 1.3.1 and replacing the messaging parts on the pre.

Anybody have any clues? I'd rather not format my device from reading the palm cloud issues.

That means the webosdoctor file you selected was not the current version of webosdoctor.

For those getting other errors, please use verbose logging option, and upload the log.txt file.

I'll be investigating the issue deeper once my Pre arrives, but until then I can only test on the emulator, where currently, I get no errors

Well, I went and enabled verbose logging and this time the repair utility made it all the way through! I did encounter some strangeness though. It seems there are a few files in /usr/palm/ondevicedemo that were not found in the WebOSDoctor (I have verified the phone and webOSDoctor.jar are both 1.3.1). I'm sure these are not too important, but still strange. The relevant part of my log file is here: #708372 - Pastie

alphazone2009, I see you had the same result. After poking around, I see that the problem is that there are spaces in these filenames and this is apparently not handled properly by the repair utility. The affected files are:

Id like to find something that can restore the Pre to stock before doing an OS update.

Currently the process is: back up, run webOSdr, upgrade OS, restore backups, reinstall patches via preware. This is a time consuming and girlfriend unfriendly process.

Can I use this program to streamline the process to: back up, run webOS repair utility, upgrade OS, reinstall patches via preware?

I was getting the error connection refused errors... i tried restarting my phone, windows, both... no luck, then i was like duh i have another usb device plugged in. i unplugged it and now the repair is running...

it made me feel kind of foolish, i was wondering why the repair utility was finding so many missing files, it was checking my blackberry!!!!

Thanks so much for yet another awesome webos app

New version released! Highly recommend people to use this new version 1.71

    v1.71 - November 20, 09
    - Fixed issue with on-device-demo included in scan list
    - Uses a new method to close novacom streams

This new way of closing novacom streams should fix the numerous errors mentioned across this thread.

I have tried every version of this utility and they have all stalled early in the scanning process and never completed..I'm not sure why but the last version I left for over and hour and the verbose log never did move past that stalled area.

Could someone give me a quick tutorial on how to replace my messaging app using the repair utility? I have a bad patch in there that Preware can't remove so I wanted to restore the app back to it's base state.

    Thanks in advance

    Easy answer is to open WebOS Repair Utility and go in the menu Tools->Restore Specific file, then enter "/usr/palm/applications/com.palm.app.email/app/controllers/message-assistant.jsjsjs&$quot$;

I'll look into the stalling issue

I just tried that, I cut & paste the above (less the quotes) and now it stalls on Loading WebOSDoctor. I am using the doctor that downloaded thru the Repair Utility.

Edit: If it has any bearing, I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64bit

Getting the same issue on mine.. just hangs on "Loading WebOSDoctor".

k, I've been able to reproduce this error, leading me to believe it's jusyt a minor issue resulting from the formatting changes in 1.71. Update 1.72 should be out soon
