Well, darker background colors does mean changing the text to white and other lighter colors and I do intend on having a darker gray color. So you could make the main contact list look like it is using the Palm Dark theme, but a complete reskinning of everything to Palm Dark is unlikely.

While Palm Dark is technically kind of like a switch you can turn on during development, it's not fully supported across all the different types of widgets. So to make everything look right, you have create a lot of custom graphics. I did that for Squeeze Control and it was a pain. Besides by using only the default theme, I can tell system to not load the resources of the Palm Dark theme, which helps a little on the load time.

Here's a screenshot of what a dark color background looks like.

    Wayne,

For some of my contacts in ProntoDial, the only picture I have of them comes from Facebook.

Whenever one of these people change their Facebook profile pic, the contact pic in ProntoDial just goes blank (not even the webOS "no pic" icon, but completely blank). Can fix it by deleting the contact from ProntoDial & adding it back in, but it's becoming rather like wak-a-mole just to keep up with them.

Is there any way to get a profile pic to stay consistent in ProntoDial regardless of what happens in Contacts or Facebook?

    thanx,
    jim

If the profile picture is from Facebook there's no way to keep it from changing without switching to a locally stored one.

So if I change a locally stored picture, will that automatically update in ProntoDial?

I don't think so. I think the contacts system virtualizes the file paths for all pictures even if they are locally stored. So when you change the picture the file path that Pronto initially got for the picture will no longer be valid. Maybe if you changed the picture but kept the same file name that might fool the system, but it's a long shot.

    - More background colors including black.

    - Fixed bug where deleting contacts in 'View All Contacts' will cause a hidden category to be visible in the main screen.

Having a way to refresh all contacts from the current "version" in the Contacts app would be awesome! I get that you can only pull the phone "types" from the Contacts app. Palm must have a way around it as the contact cards will display the custom text from gmail.

I guess you read the "reply" review. Well, I actually wrote that a little prematurely. It turns out that not having custom label support is an oversight on my part and I've already submitted an update that corrects it, but you will have to re-add a contact to get the custom label into Pronto.

As to "refreshing" all contacts, that is not possible with the current version of webOS. Third-party apps can only retrieve Contacts one at a time with direct user interaction. It is a security limitation of webOS. This is the same way with every "Quick dial" app.

webOS 2.0 mentions better Synergy support for third party apps, so hopefully it will allow apps to sync with the Contacts system.

last night I downloaded 1.4.2 update via Preware. For some reason the app no longer loads properly - all I get is a white screen. I went to the update function and it shows that 1.4.2 is installed.

any thoughts? I really don't want to uninstall and pay for it again - especially if it won't work!

Have you tried rebooting the phone? Which version did you upgrade from? Did any error dialogs popup?

Even if you uninstall it, you should not need to pay for it again to re-download it. Your Palm profile keeps track of which apps you've bought. I know this because I can't upgrade my own apps through the app catalog since I never paid for them.

It would be nice if you could use your own backgrounds (and specify light or dark fonts). Also please consider making the sort function on the contacts case insensitive.

Having to load background images would probably slow down the launch of the app, which kind of goes against the main philosophy of Pronto. I'll do some tests to see what the impact is, but it won't be for a bit.

I didn't even realize that the sorting was case sensitive. I'll add an option to toggle that in the next update.

*Please* do not damage a perfect app by putting useless decorations on it.

A background image slows down the app, makes it use more memory, and makes it harder to read the text of the list of contacts that you are wanting to get to, select, and get out of, as quickly as possible.

Don't worry. If I do decide to add an option for using background images, it will be optional and I will make sure that it won't impact the performance of the app if the user chooses not to enable it.

Besides, I spent a lot of time picking out all those different background colors. I'm NOT going to just abandon it

Pronto Dial v1.4.5 is now available.

    New features:

    - Preference option to toggle case sensitivity for sorting.

To anybody already using webOS 2.0: Pronto Dial is NOT compatible with webOS 2.0. Certain parts of the API relevant to Pronto has changed and HP/Palm haven't yet provided enough documentation to allow me to account for this change. I'll get this fixed once the documentation is available.

I tried to use the SMS button on some of my contacts and a new SMS screen appears but it says "unknown" instead of the name of the contact (tried several). Has anyone else experienced this issue?

It's a bug with the current version of webOS. Some internal references and id's seem to change randomly over time. One such id is required to launch the messenger into chat view. Since there's no way for 3rd party apps to automatically sync with changes to a contact, every so often when you sms a contact the messenger will say unknown.

There's two ways to fix this, 1) re-add the contact to Pronto Dial, this will get a current set of contact info into Pronto, or 2) Turn on USE NEW MESSAGE FOR SMS in the preferences of Pronto. This will launch the messenger in new message mode instead of chat view.

Hopefully this will change with webOS 2.0
