I'm going away for a few years and the PC I was going to take with me to watch tv & movies, it's PSU has blown. So Is it possible I can just plug in my external HDD (with it's own power supply) via a USB to micro USB adapter ? I have looked around the forums but can't see a definitive answer.

Have read about a dozen different pages and there is nothing concrete. So if anyone has successfully used an external hdd for watching media on there touchpad, I'd love to hear about how you did it with regards to cables/adapters used and additional software - if any was needed.

You need at least a modified cable with external power, if your hard drive is powered by USB. The TP does not supply power on USB.
