Nandroid backup is the backup found in ClockWorkMod.

Think of it as an image of your android system. This is an awesome feature as it let you make a complete backup of your system. This comes in very handy especially when running alphas or nightlys. When you find your system in a pretty stable environment then make a backup of it in clockwork recovery. Then if something goes wrong or you install a nightly you are not happy with, do a restore of your backup. I always have one stable Android backup. Doesn't take long either. You'll need about a gigabyte of disk space available depending n how much you have installed on it. To do this,, boot into clockwork recovery and use the backup and restore feature. Hope this explains it.
