I know we're not supposed to talk about android over here, so I put up a post over at the android site - but I wanted to mention it here since I know some of the android peeps still frequent here instead .

    http://forums.androidcentral.com/hp-...3-install.html

The long and the short of it is, there's a new version of CM7 alpha 3 out right now being updated by xron. It's fixed a ton of bugs, speeded up the interface, repaired video (flash and netflix from the looks of it), and works out-of-the-box with proper Google apps etc already installed (less fiddling with stuff to install, etc). I've written up some instructions on installing and suggest -everyone- update to this for now. You can always update to alpha 4 when it arrives, but -today- this is the best possible android experience on the touchpad available (it's still alpha 3, it's just a HEAVILY tweaked version with a honeycomb look, better battery life, improved functionality, and better app support).

Just go to that post and it'll have all the details on how to backup/install/use it.

I'm still a webOS guy, but still thankful for the tip. With battery issues, CM7 on my TouchPad is almost untolerable. Any idea if this minor update will help at all? Thanks!

Seems to be working beautifully for me. Been using it for hours now just thismorning with only a 10% drop or so in battery.

The biggest draw on battery for me seems to be the backlight - make sure you turn down the screen brightness to something comfortable and less power-hungry (I think I use between 10 and 20% brightness). That helps quite a bit.

    YMMV

Thanks. I really hope they will allow an adroiod on TP section here, without restrictions. This site works so much better for me while at work. The other one takes a long time for pages to load.

I just installed alpha 3 the other day and I have not had any battery issues. Not sure if I should try this new one or not.

I have wifi issues sometimes but that happens with webOS for me too. I would like better app support on android though.

Yeah, I've tried a lot, including a dimmed screen. Something is hogging resource bad & I can't find it. I did install the B1.2. I am working so I don't really have a lot of time to spend with customizing it or testing battery life, however I did already have a random reboot. I think I only had one with the plain Jane CM7 Alpha 3. It does look nicer & seems to run faster...so that's a bonus! Thanks again!

Have you tried going into the Accounts settings and making the syncing interval longer for whatever accounts you have active?
  7. #7
Okay... Need for Speed: Shift is one of the .10 apps today. There are three versions on the app store and all of them say uncompatiable with the TP, and will not let me purchase.

Is there a way I can purchase it? I don't care about wasting .10 or even .30 since it could work later with a new update to CM. Actually I see from another forum that is does work on the TP.

Yes. I currently only have my gmail account sync'd. I had turned of both contacts & calendar (I live in the webOS world for the majority of that stuff). I have all phone related items turned off, no live wallpaper, currently no widgets, etc. Gemini to manage tasks/applications, etc. The drain is horrific. No kidding, a single storybook with my kids can result in a 10%+ drain.

I ran an app test this morning before I left for the office. Pre getting ready, I had 8tracks running a mix on a 100% charged CM7 boot. Time spent was 17 minutes. I had a drain of 19%. Unreal. Check tasks, etc. etc. Nothing major there. It was a fresh boot, no other software opened.

TouchPad, I took the next 17 minutes, ran the same 8tracks mix...checked email, weather, twitter, etc....a bunch of stuff. My drain...2%.

I'm going to run a full webOS doctor & a completely clean install of Android, however I am going to wait (assuming I don't have that much longer) for 3.0.5 & possibly ICS. Maybe I just had a bad install? We'll see later if this new flash helped. That said, as I was typing this, it crashed again & rebooted. It was just sitting there...

Just for giggles - but what usually works for me is changing the build prop details to match a compatible device, rebooting, then downloading/installing.

So for example, you could set the build prop details to product = Nexus S, and manufacturer = samsung

There's some details on how to masquarade as another device

Once you've set things up, make sure you go into settings...applications....Manage applications....all....Market...and CLEAR CACHE... and than Clear Data, then reboot tablet. Market -should- work with the fake build.prop data.

I haven't specifically tried doing this for the 10C sale, but it worked previously with other games.

You can do all of that in absolute system tools (search for it in the marketplace). While you're using absolute system tools, you can also change the default font - I recommend the roboto ICS font, as it looks particularly good on the touchpad, and block ads from the browsers.

Did you install it properly, doing a factory reset in CWM before installing?

If so, I have no idea why you are crashing - I have not experienced a single random crash and don't see any mention of that in the thread.....

You might also try changing your display settings to time out after 5 minutes rather than so quickly - might have something to do with it (it's the only setting I changed immediately, so, theres that).

I found it. 1.99 I will try it and see what happens. After I change it to Nexus S, and I am able to install the game, should I then change it back to Touchpad?

I think I am going to try the update you posted to CM7 this weekend. But I am sure I will have questions.

I had to follow a video step by step to install CM7 the first time...creating folders, installing stuff on my pc, running CMD....

In most instances, you can change back once you've already installed the program - I just left my build prop changed. If you're not opposed to doing some hacking you can also manually edit your build.prop:

"Protected" app Market fix tutorial - build.prop - Android Forums

it's just a bit more complex - but doesn't require the program I recommended

At any rate, changing my build.prop is how I've managed to play games like nova 2 or fieldrunners on my touchpad.

Thanks. I think for saftey, it is probably better if I use the app. :-)

It seems like the moderaters have allowed us to expand our android on touchpad discussions...so thank you.

I did just register on the other site, but I like this site so much better.

I stay here b/c this is where I want to be. I am registered there & at xda, but it's really just lurking & research for me. I think it's relevant on PreCentral, & many others have given good reason for why it is (I won't re-hash). I'm not looking to replace webOS, I'm looking to maximize my enjoyment on the TouchPad. webOS has some current gaps, so I fill them. To me this isn't just a forum, it's a community to which I'm a member.

Most of us here (completely without legitimate sourcing...haha) are in some form or another, gadget geeks. Some may not like to tinker, but to me there is a thrill & real benefit to doing so. It's not without risk, of course, but I love it. Cheers!

My reboot issue was in fact in conjunction with screen time-out. I went ahead & moved the settings & haven't had a reboot since. Thanks ncinerate.

It didn't work for me. App store still thinks it's a TP.

    I changed:
    ro.product.model = Nexus S
    ro.product.brand = samsung

Cleared market Cache and Data. The game does not show up in the market through the app. Through the PC, the games are there but they all show not compatiable with the Touchpad.

Since that didn't work, I tried changing ro.product.manafacturer=samsung, but that didn't work either.

    There is a ro.product.device=tenderloin
    Should I change that?

Any other tips or specific fields? Thanks.

@ncinerate: can you post the link to the xron-ified files here? Android Central won't let me see the links, without registering, and won't let me register either (they say I have to use the same ID and password as here, and when I do they say it's wrong). I know I could probably find them with google, but I want to make sure I've got the right files.

    Thanks.

Can I just wipe the caches and go with this install, or do I need to worry about reinstalling all of my apps and things like that?

Unless there is an actual problem, I just wipe the caches and do a factory reset if there *is* a problem, I installed this and it seems to work fine.
