My feedback on this exact setup:
-I tried a few FAT32 USB keys --> OK
-"single cable" FAT32 and NTFS USB Drive --> NOT OK (not enough power from usb hub)
-mains powered NTFS USB Drive --> need to try the above Howto
-my compact camera (Olympus XZ-1) with it's USB cable ("Storage" mode, not "MTP" mode --> OK . woot!
