So out of curiosity, if the OEM Pre cable has the two pins shorted and 'isn't capable of data transfer", how come it's capable of data transfer?

Edit: Wait never mind, you're saying it's that way in the charger but rather than hack up a charger you're just modifying the cable.

I also wonder if the Palm OEM car charger has those two pins shorted out or not.
